We are looking for a Director, Business Continuity Management (BCM) – Technology Resiliency.
Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following office locations: Toronto, London, Winnipeg, Regina and Montreal.
The Director Business Continuity Management will support the AVP, Business Continuity Management, and will be responsible for supporting and leading the design and oversight of implementation of the enterprise-wide (Lifeco) Business Continuity Management Framework.
The role is focused on the areas of Disaster Recovery, Service Continuity, and Technology Resiliency for Great-West Lifeco (Canada Life, Irish Life, Canada Life UK, Putnam, Empower).
The role will be accountable for ensuring the organization is adequately identifying, measuring, managing and reporting business continuity management risks, and is in compliance with all global and jurisdictional standards and regulatory requirements.
The Director, Business Continuity Management will work actively with the BC and DR coordinators across all regions (i.e. Canada, Europe, and the United States) to ensure practices are aligned to the Lifeco BCM Framework, and provides independent assessment of the BCM risk profile.
What you will do:
As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Technology Resiliency this role is established as a second Line of Defence with specific deliverables and responsibilities that include:
Applying best practices in providing direction, leadership and guidance in relation to technology resiliency
Govern the development, delivery, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of strategies, plans and processes
Evaluate and challenge strategies for technology availability (internal and external) to meet business and regulatory requirements
Monitor, analyze, aggregate and report on areas of technology risk related to BCM such as concentration risk, change management, testing and exercise results
Report to senior leadership on program performance
Work with a broad stakeholder group that includes the Lifeco and Regional BCM, Technology and Risk Management teams
Establish a process to apply objective assessment to key aspects of the BCM Framework including the business impact analysis (BIA) process, stated recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs), as well as recovery and testing strategies.
Drive continuous improvement across the organization related to BCM risk and ensure improvements are incorporated into the ongoing development of tools and processes. Ensure that change management impacts are assessed, and related processes are in place.
Determine the appropriate governance and escalation processes to support the lines-of-business on key risk issues.
Ensure sufficient BCM testing programs are established to provide assurance of resilience to key risks and threats
Review and provide objective assessment to the design of regional BCM testing frameworks
Establish Lifeco level BCM key risk indicators, and facilitate the sharing of best practices across the regions
What you will bring:
Undergraduate degree or technical diploma in computer sciences, information technology, information management, management information systems, or a related field
Disaster Recovery experience related to data centre infrastructure including core infrastructure, network, storage, etc.
Strong understanding of cloud technologies and recovery alternatives.
Demonstrated leadership skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate complex issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
Effective engagement with key stakeholders and senior management
Able to establish a model of partnership and collaboration
Proactively able to identify potential issues and challenges, and develop realistic solutions
Strong knowledge of BCM techniques
