Summary of Duties
The Patient Billing Department of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Finance department has an immediate full-time opening for a permanent Department Clerk. This position will work out of the Hospital’s St John’s Rehab Campus. Patient Accounts is a high-volume, fast paced department responsible for all billing and collections at the Hospital. Working within a team of 25, this role supports the team with non OHIP billing and collections for ambulance, preferred accommodation, WSIB, IFH, interprovincial, device and other sundry charges.
Download all Patient payment records from the bank or other sources (e.g. email)
Enter payment transactions into the Accounts Receivable sub-ledger and generate receipts
Process credit card, departmental deposits (mini batches) and online payments
Balance daily receipt batches and prepare bank deposits
Resolve minor payment discrepancies and escalate any unresolved issues to the Accounts Receivable Clerk
Open, sort and distribute department mail (including cheque payments)
Prepare invoices for mailing
Action all undelivered mail by calling Patients to obtain updated mailing addresses and re-sending the mail
Provide filing and in-person/telephone reception services for the Patient Accounts Team
Assist with time keeping and supply ordering
Other related duties as required
In order to succeed in this role, the successful candidate must possess the following required and preferred qualifications and skills:
Minimum 1 year of experience in an Accounts Receivable Department (Hospital or Medical Clinic experience strongly preferred)
Possess an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Equivalent
Proficient and accurate data entry skills
Demonstrated competence with computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel etc.)
Pleasant customer service skills
Attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently
