Staff Plus is hiring an experienced Machine Operator for a steel manufacturing facility.
This is a skilled machine operating position working with specialized Unicore equipment used to produce steel cores. The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of industrial manufacturing and machine operating experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and experience troubleshooting and adjusting production equipment.
Candidates with experience in steel, automotive, aluminum, heavy machinery, metal manufacturing or a similar industrial environment are strongly preferred. Food production experience alone will not meet the experience requirements for this position.
The Unicore Operator is responsible for setting up and operating specialized machinery, inspecting steel materials, making machine adjustments, monitoring quality, completing production documentation, and troubleshooting equipment to ensure finished products meet specifications.
Pay: CA$23.64–$27.85 per hour
Schedule: Continental rotating 12-hour shifts, rotating between days and nights every 2 weeks
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM start
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM start (Night Shift Premium: $0.80/hour)
What You'll Do:
- Set up and operate production machinery according to work orders, specifications and operating procedures.
- Load steel coils and adjust machine components including blades, gauges, sensors, benders and holder bars.
- Program and adjust machine settings based on required core designs and production specifications.
- Inspect incoming slit steel and verify materials against work orders.
- Monitor machine operation and make adjustments to maintain product quality and production efficiency.
- Inspect finished parts and cores to ensure they meet required specifications.
- Use measuring tools such as micrometers, gauges and tape measures to verify dimensions.
- Read and interpret work orders, technical documents, blueprints and schematics.
- Troubleshoot machine and production issues and make basic mechanical adjustments or repairs.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance, cleaning and component adjustments.
- Accurately record material usage, production information, labour time and quality inspection results.
- Work closely with other operators and production team members to maintain production flow.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and wear required PPE.
What You Need:
- 3-5 years of manufacturing and machine operating experience.
- Experience in steel, automotive, aluminum, heavy machinery, metal manufacturing or a similar industrial manufacturing environment.
- Food production experience alone will not qualify.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints and schematics.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Experience using measuring tools such as micrometers, gauges, calipers or rulers.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical or vocational training is an asset.
- Comfortable working in a loud industrial manufacturing environment.
- Able to work continental rotating 12-hour day and night shifts, with shifts rotating every 2 weeks.
- Able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical work.
- Able to bend, crouch and move throughout the shift.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable wearing required PPE.
