Job Summary
We are looking for a Operations Supervisor to leads the shipping and turnaround functional groups and is accountable for safe, accurate and timely outbound warehouse and turnaround material operations. This role plans work and staffing at our location; oversees material readiness, staging, cargo verification, documentation and dispatch; and coordinates post-turnaround returns and reconciliation. Working directly with the client, warehouse, offshore, vendor and logistics stakeholders, the supervisor maintains material traceability, regulatory compliance and service continuity while coaching employees and resolving operational issues.
Duties and responsibilities
1. People Leadership & Work Coordination
- Lead the shipping and turnaround functional groups and provide day-to-day supervision to assigned Material Handlers, Shippers, forklift operators and staging personnel.
- Plan, assign, prioritize and monitor daily work and shift coverage, adjusting available resources to meet workload, service requirements and transportation cut-offs.
- Lead safety huddles and operational handovers, communicating priorities, critical material status, schedule changes and work constraints.
- Coach employees, reinforce standards, identify training and cross-training needs, and support formal performance or attendance management with the Operations Manager.
- Maintain functional-group standard work, records and communication routines while promoting accountability, respectful teamwork and continuous improvement.
2. Turnaround Planning & Material Readiness
- Review turnaround material lists, work-pack requirements, purchase-order status and need dates; maintain the readiness and shortage view and communicate schedule risks.
- Ensure materials are received, inspected and validated against purchase orders, packing lists, specifications and supporting certification, with discrepancies addressed promptly.
- Ensure materials are identified, tagged, preserved, kitted and staged by work package, priority, destination or other approved control method.
- Coordinate warehouse, vendor, carrier and offshore stakeholders to align material availability, staging and loadout with approved turnaround and logistics plans.
3. Shipping, Cargo Control & Documentation
- Oversee outgoing shipments and final physical audits against pick lists, manifests, transfer requests and other approved shipping records before loading or release.
- Supervise staging and loading, verifying material identity, quantity, condition, destination, weight distribution and cargo securing for trucks, containers, marine baskets and other transport units.
- Ensure bills of lading, manifests, transfer records and dangerous-goods documentation are accurate and completed by trained and authorized personnel, with required packaging, marking, labelling, placarding and segregation controls.
- Maintain audit-ready chain-of-custody records for outbound movements, driver signoffs and carrier hand-offs.
- Monitor dispatch schedules and reprioritize personnel and staging activity to meet carrier, vessel and aviation cut-offs; resolve or escalate cargo and documentation exceptions promptly.
4. Post-Turnaround Reverse Logistics & Inventory Control
- Establish controlled backload areas for surplus, return-to-stock, repairable, vendor-return, warranty, rental, quarantine, hazardous and approved disposal streams.
- Ensure returned materials are identified, assessed, preserved, packaged, labelled, documented and transported according to ownership, condition and approved disposition.
- Coordinate return authorizations, vendor credits, repairable components, rental equipment and recovery of reusable inventory with responsible stakeholders.
- Oversee reconciliation of issued, consumed, returned and outstanding materials, including counts, variance investigation and timely system transactions.
- Prepare closeout information covering outstanding materials, unresolved discrepancies, returns in transit and disposition status, and capture lessons learned for future turnarounds.
5. HSSE, Compliance & Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as a visible safety leader and ensure assigned personnel follow Bluewater, client, carrier and regulatory requirements for material handling, lifting interfaces, storage, dangerous goods, environmental protection and offshore access.
- Stop, hold or redirect work when safety, compliance, material condition or traceability is at risk; ensure incidents, control gaps, inspections and corrective actions are addressed or reported.
- Serve as the frontline contact for shipping and turnaround material matters, providing timely updates to client, warehouse, offshore, vendor and logistics stakeholders.
6. Other Duties
- This profile describes the position's primary purpose, accountabilities and qualification level. Duties may be adjusted reasonably for operational, client or organizational requirements. Material changes to role scope, reporting authority or qualification level require management and Human Resources review.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three or more years of progressive materials, warehousing, inventory or logistics experience in an industrial environment, including at least one year in a lead-hand or supervisory capacity.
- Practical knowledge of receiving, shipping, cargo staging and securing, transportation documentation, inventory control, reverse logistics and discrepancy resolution.
- Experience with an inventory, warehouse-management or enterprise resource planning system, together with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated frontline leadership, coaching, communication, organization and problem-solving skills, with the ability to allocate resources and manage changing priorities under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory or lead experience supporting offshore operations, shutdowns, turnarounds or major maintenance projects.
- Experience with SAP and reverse-logistics processes involving repairables, vendor returns, rentals or surplus disposition.
- Current or previous training and experience preparing road, air or marine dangerous-goods documentation.
- Related post-secondary coursework and/or applicable warehouse-equipment certifications.
Working Conditions
The position works across warehouse, staging, yard, office and offshore platform environments around vessels, aircraft cargo interfaces, cranes, forklifts, delivery vehicles and other material-handling equipment.
- Offshore travel may be required, together with all assignment-specific medical, training, security, fitness-for-duty and site-access requirements.
- Work may include rotational or extended shifts, nights, weekends and holidays; regular standing, walking, stair or ladder use, outdoor work, required PPE and light to moderate lifting are expected alongside daily administrative and computer work.
