Your impact
We are seeking an Intermediate Highway Design Engineer to join our Highways & Roads team in Calgary . In this role, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects that enhance connectivity and improve communities. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and play a key role in shaping roadway design solutions from concept through to detailed design.
As part of our growing transportation team, you’ll work on major roadway and highway projects across Canada. You’ll support the development of innovative, sustainable, and technically sound design solutions while helping deliver projects that keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop roadway and highway designs, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and grading using Civil 3d and Open Roads
- Prepare and review design calculations, technical reports, and contract documents
- Collaborate with CAD technicians and designers to produce engineering drawings and models
- Ensure designs meet Alberta Transportion, Transportation Association of Canada, City of Calgary Guidelines, and client requirements
- Participate in design reviews, value engineering, and QA/QC processes
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (drainage, traffic, utilities, structures, geotechnical, environmental)
- Support project delivery through planning, preliminary and detailed design phases
- Engage with clients and stakeholders as required
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 5-10 years of experience in roadway/highway design
- Strong knowledge of road design principles and transportation engineering
- Proficiency in Civil 3D, Open Roads ,AutoCAD and Autoturn
- Experience preparing engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
- Experience working on Ontario transportation projects and familiarity with MTO standards
- Working toward or holding P.Eng designation (APEGA, PEO)
- Experience with BIM workflows and digital design tools
- Exposure to municipal and provincial infrastructure projects in Alberta and Ontario
- Understanding of complete streets, active transportation, or sustainable design principles
