Role Overall Purpose
As a Wind Turbine Service Technician Family 1,2,3,4 or 9, you will be responsible for servicing wind turbine generators throughout North America.
Core Responsibilities
- Travel 100% and work at wind farms throughout North America on an 8/1 rotation
- Assist, lead and mentor other wind technicians in the performance of their duties
- Perform wind turbine maintenance, mechanical and electrical work including but not limited to:
- Perform component alignments using mechanical and/or laser
- Perform LOTO on all sources of energy including switching operations on HV components
- Terminate wires based on schematics
- Perform work on and mentor other technicians to identify electrical components and motors/generators of a WTG
- Perform work on and mentor other technicians on hydraulic components of a WTG
- Read, interpret and mentor others on electrical and hydraulic schematics (1-line diagrams)
- May be expected to use a borescope on main bearing and gearboxes
- May be expected to perform and lead major component replacements (MCE)
- Support site management on various punch-list task
- Perform torquing and tensioning
- Yaw turbines
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic components
- Break-in, quarterly (500 hr.), 6-month and annual wind turbine and unscheduled maintenance without supervision including greasing, applying lubricants, verifying accumulator pressures, inspections, calibration tests, etc.
- Defective parts removal and replacement using proper work instructions
- Assist with large component replacement, retrofits, troubleshooting and other special assignments
- Continue to develop and expand wind maintenance skillset through on-the-job training and train others in performing service work
- Work safely, competently and productively under the direction of others
- Keep records, maintain documentation and report technical and safety issues
Education, Key Requirements, and Experience
Must meet the following requirements, have or obtain the listed required certifications and training including, but not limited to:
- Must have 3+ years of successful service and troubleshooting experience on SGRE Wind Turbines
- Valid passport preferred
- Ability to work an 8-week on, 1 week off rotation
- Physically able to safely climb wind turbines up to 120m+ (400+ feet), stand, stoop, walk, crawl, crouch, lift up to 75 lbs. and generally meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must have strong experience doing torquing and tensioning
- Must have strong experience using a grease gun, doing filter changes
- Valid and current driver's license with a satisfactory driving
- Must be 21 years of age to be able to drive a company vehicle
- Must be able to proficiently read, write and speak English
- Satisfactory criminal background check
The following certifications are required:
- GWO BST (Basic Safety Training) - fire awareness, working at heights, manual handling, first aid
- GWO BTT (Basic Technical Training) - electrical, hydraulic, mechanical
- Siemens Basic Technician training or Troubleshooter Family 1/2/3/4/9 or Maintenance Family 1/2/3/4/9.
- OSHA 10 General Industry
- Crane, Chain Hoist and Rigging Safety Training
- NFPA 70E Arc-Flash Awareness
- Prefer training or experience with Touchscreen Controller Hand Terminals
