Martin Luther Child Care (MLCC) is a not-for-profit child care centre located in Etobicoke and currently serves up to 72 children and families from 18 months to 12 years in two adjacent locations. We are currently seeking to hire a PROGRAM SUPPORT / FOOD SERVER to join our team, who is dedicated, enthusiastic, and passionate about working with children! MLCC is enrolled in the CWELCC program.
POSITION: FOOD SERVING AND PROGRAM SUPPORT (all ages): This position may be 2 part time or 1 full-time role – for full time the role has split duties of food serving and program support (the position includes two school walks – on AM and one PM).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
This position is available to RECE’s and ECA’s. RECE's must have and show evidence of an original ECE diploma or degree (or equivalency); and must provide evidence of registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. All employees are required to provide a current and valid Standard First Aid / CPR-C (infant/child/adult) certification (or willing to obtain prior to start date), and up to date medical/immunization information as per CCEYA and Toronto Public Health requirements. Food Servers must provide a current and valid Food Server Certification.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Experience working in a child care setting (ages toddler to school age an asset)
- Willing and able to work with all age groups and be flexible to accommodate needs of the program;
- Experience developing and implementing emergent programs using the ELECT framework - demonstrated effective observation and documentation skills;
- Basic computer skills are an asset (i.e. Microsoft word) and use of tablet (familiarity with Lillio is an asset);
- Demonstrated ability to work with families in complex situations and from a variety of cultures, and differing family values and beliefs;
- Able and willing to work flexible hours (between 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.) – shifts and room assignments are not guaranteed and are assigned and altered according to Centre needs;
- Able and willing to work outside of centre’s operational hours (i.e. some evenings or weekends to attend mandatory monthly staff meetings, special events, professional development, etc.) as needed. Monthly evening staff meetings are mandatory for all employees.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cohesive team setting;
- Demonstrated leadership skills - ability to take initiative, assess and respond to situations in a positive, effective and timely manner, and work independently requiring minimal supervision and/or direction;
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills – able to communicate positively and effectively with children, parents, staff, and management team.
- Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation as per the City of Toronto's 'Assessment for Quality Improvement’ (AQI), the Ministry of Education's licensing legislation (CCEYA, 2014) and HDLH approaches, as well at Toronto Public Health requirements and standards.
- Works well independently and in a team setting, requiring minimal supervision. Able to take initiative in daily duties and delegated tasks.
- Minimum 2 references will be required from current or previous supervisors or managers.
FOOD SERVING: Meals, snacks and beverages are provided by a catering company. The food server must have their Food Serving certification and is required to complete requirements for receiving food (take and record temperatures, store food as needed until serving, divide food per age group and bring to classrooms, collect dishes and cutlery, wash/sanitize and store serving items (industrial dishwashers are available), proper disposal of food.
NOTE: In addition to above noted qualification and requirements, if offered a position employees must provide up to date immunization record and clear health check (as per CCEYA), current Standard First Aid/CPR-C as well as vulnerable sector police reference check dated within 6 months of start date, as a condition of employment. Details will be discussed upon hire.
Competitive compensation provided: $22.48 to $28.04 (pending qualifications and experience of successful candidate). Wage grants are available (in addition to above listed rates) for eligible employee and hours worked in eligible programs.
