We are seeking an Electrical Engineer (Protection & Control) to design and implement protection schemes and control strategies for renewable energy systems, energy storage facilities, and power quality solutions. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, reliable, and coordinated operation of complex electrical systems.
The successful candidate will bring expertise in protective relaying, power system controls, and experience with modern digital protection and automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design protection and control schemes for renewable energy, BESS, and microgrid systems
- Develop protection coordination studies and relay settings for various fault scenarios
- Create control logic and sequences for automated switching and system operations
- Configure and program digital protective relays and automation controllers
- Perform protection system modeling and analysis using industry-standard software
- Develop functional specifications for protection and control systems
- Support commissioning activities including relay testing and protection validation
- Investigate system disturbances and implement corrective measures
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 4 years of experience in power system protection and control
- Strong knowledge of protective relaying principles and applications
- Experience with digital protection relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Schneider, or similar)
- Proficiency in protection analysis software (ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, or similar)
- Understanding of power system dynamics and stability
- Knowledge of communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus)
- Eligible for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada
Preferred Experience
- Experience with renewable energy or energy storage protection schemes
- Knowledge of microgrid protection and islanding detection
- Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for control systems
- Experience with SCADA systems and HMI development
- Background in power electronics and inverter-based resources
- Field experience in protection system commissioning and testing
