We are seeking flexible, fun, substitute preschool teachers and after school care leaders for casual positions at False Creek Community Centre. This is the ideal position for students who are completing their education in a field related to children, candidates that enjoy the freedom of setting their own work schedule, and candidates looking to supplement their current employment. As a Substitute Teacher and/or Leader, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on students' education while gaining valuable experience in the field of teaching. This position offers flexibility in scheduling and the chance to work in various educational settings. Shifts in the preschool programs generally fall between 8:30am-12am. Shifts in out of school care programs generally fall between 7:30am-9am, and/or 2:00-6:00pm. On school holidays, non-instructional days and during the summer holidays, there may be opportunities for full day shifts. Selected candidates will be added to a staff list shared between the programs at the centre. This position may lead to regular, permanent positions for interested candidates. Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide quality care for children aged 3-12yrs in licensed childcare programs.
- Ensure a healthy, safe and stimulating environment
- Plan & implement age-appropriate programming under the direction of program staff
- Provide guidance to children as a positive role model
- Maintain a professional relationship with parents and families
- Contribute to the overall operation of the program
- Ensure the requirements and policies set out by licensing are met.
Education and Experience
- Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education Assistant, Responsible Adult certification, and/or a minimum of 20 hours of training in “Child Growth and Development”, “Health & Safety”, “Guiding and Caring”, and/or other courses within child development. - REQUIRED
- Current First Aid Certificate - REQUIRED
- A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
- Previous experience in a Licensed child care program, or similar children’s recreation program.
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices
- Ability to work with children of different ages and abilities
- Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
- Special education experience or training is a plus
- Strong leadership and organizational skills

Pay: $18.00-$21.00 per hour
