Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Utility Crew Lead to oversee and support utility installation crews while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a hands-on working leadership role. The successful candidate will be expected to lead by example, actively participating in excavation, underground utility installation, conduit placement, restoration work, and other field activities while coordinating the day-to-day operations of the crew.
This position is based primarily out of Kamloops, BC, with periodic out-of-town work required as projects take place across the province.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise civil utility crews during daily field operations while actively working alongside the crew
- Coordinate excavation, trench preparation, and underground utility installation (conduit, duct banks, drainage, etc.)
- Perform general civil construction duties, including trenching, grading, backfilling, compaction, and restoration
- Plan and assign daily tasks to ensure safe and efficient project execution
- Ensure work meets project specifications, drawings, and applicable standards
- Promote safe work practices, including hazard identification, daily tailgate meetings, and PPE compliance
- Communicate with Project Managers, Forepersons, operators, subcontractors, and utility representatives
- Monitor productivity and maintain project schedules
- Complete daily reports, inspections, and required project documentation
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized worksite
- Mentor and support the development of crew members
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to field crews
- Read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, and work packages
- Coordinate materials, equipment, and manpower requirements
- Ensure quality control and compliance with company and client standards
- Participate in pre-job planning, hazard assessments, and safety meetings
- Foster a positive team environment focused on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in civil construction and underground utility installation required
- Previous experience leading construction or utility crews preferred
- Strong knowledge of excavation safety and underground utility practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, loaders, or similar equipment is considered a strong asset
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (higher class an asset)
- Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Reliable with a strong work ethic and commitment to safety

Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime as required
- Weekends as required

Pay: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
