Reporting to the Security Supervisor, the principal duties of a Security Guard is to protect the property from theft and vandalism, to control access throughout the facility, and respond to emergency and security related calls.
This is a Casual On -call position. You will not have set work shifts but will be asked to fill work shifts at various times and days based on your availability.
In this position, your primary duty will be to protect the property from theft and vandalism, control access to the facility, maintain order at public events, arm/disarm all doors and windows, perform escort services for employees, visitors and sub-contractors, and report on security related incidents and their resolution. Respond to all emergency calls, including fire alarms, and assist emergency responders with bomb threat responses and hazardous substance response where required including facility evacuation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Protect the property from theft and vandalism.
Control access to the facility and maintain order at public events including assisting with the flow of traffic around facility entrances as needed.
Advise the Help Desk of any observations regarding damage or disturbances to the physical environment which could affect security.
Arm/disarm all doors and windows, ensuring they are secure and that all firefighting equipment and exits are accessible.
Perform escort services to employees, visitors, and sub-contractors who do not have the appropriate security clearance.
Responds to calls for security to perform a diagnosis and address the issue or emergency
Provide reports on security related incidents and their resolution.
Ensure proper completion of daily activity / shift reports, incident / occurrence reports and all post required logs and registers in a timely manner.
Respond to all emergency calls, including fire alarms, and assist emergency responders with bomb threat responses and hazardous substance response where required including facility evacuation.
Day to day patrol duties as per the predetermined schedule.
A minimum of 1-2 years of previous customer facing security guard experience.
Completion of secondary school education is required. Additional security training would be an asset.
Previous experience using alarm response tracking within a CMMS.
Good interpersonal skills to successfully interact with employees, students and the public.
Physically fit with the ability to stand and walk for long periods.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to pass the required Security Clearance Check (CPIC).
This is a unionized position with UFCW Local 102.
HOURS OF WORK: There are 2 available shift times you may be called in for. 7:00 am - 7:00 pm (Day shift) or, 7:00 pm - 7:00 am (Night shift)
COMPENSATION: $15.50 per hour
