Job Opportunity: Experienced Immigration and Refugee Paralegal
Are you a skilled paralegal with a passion for immigration and refugee law? Our busy and growing law office in the Greater Toronto Area is dedicated to providing exceptional immigration and refugee services. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Paralegal – Immigration and Refugee Specialist to join us as a contractor and make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and file a broad range of immigration applications, including work permits, visitor visas, study permits, extensions of status, restoration of status, family sponsorships, and permanent residence applications.
- Assist clients with refugee protection claims, Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) applications, Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) submissions, appeals before the Refugee Appeal Division, and judicial reviews before the Federal Court.
- Prepare and submit responses to Procedural Fairness Letters and other correspondence from IRCC, CBSA, and the Immigration and Refugee Board.
- Communicate professionally with government agencies, tribunals, and other stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Conduct legal research and stay current with changes in immigration legislation, regulations, policies, and jurisprudence.
- Draft and submit legal documents, affidavits, written submissions, and other required materials.
- Manage case files and ensure accurate, organized, and timely record-keeping.
- Provide excellent client service across a diverse, multilingual client base while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a paralegal in immigration and refugee law.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian immigration policies, procedures, and practices.
- Strong understanding of IRCC, CBSA, and IRB processes.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish, French, Arabic, etc.) is an asset.
- Paralegal license in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
