We are seeking an exceptional Microscopy Imaging Research Technician to join our cutting-edge neuroscience research team at Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, Canada, in the laboratory of Dr. Isabelle Aubert. This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated individual to utilize advanced microscopy techniques and drive innovative discoveries in the preclinical development of brain therapies for neurodegenerative disorders.
Responsibilities
1. Imaging
a. Operate and maintain the Leica Stellaris 5 White Light Microscope
b. Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of imaging equipment
c. Acquire images on the Leica Stellaris 5 and analyze them with specialized software
2. Histology
a. Process, cut and stain brain, spinal cord and other tissue for imaging
b. Perform immunohistochemistry and RNAscope experiments
3. General
a. Develop and optimize imaging, analyses and histology protocols and stay up to date with technological and methodological advancements
b. Maintain detailed records and documentation of experiments, imaging and quantification procedures and results
c. Train and supervise users
d. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and ethical standards
Qualifications
- Degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
- Extensive hands-on experience with state-of-the-art confocal microscope, such as the Leica Stellaris 5 White Light Microscope or equivalent
- Expertise in Tausense microscopy or equivalent
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D image imaging, analysis and quantification
- Expertise with LASX, ImageJ (FIJI), Cell Profiler, Illustrator, Photoshop, Zenblue, and other software
- Hands-on experience with histology, including brain tissue processing, sectioning, staining, and slide preparation.
- Expertise in immunohistochemistry and RNAscope techniques in rodent models
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
