Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Electrical / General Engineer to contribute to innovative engineering projects within our organization, such as a Ball Thrower for people with disabilities to play fetch with their dogs. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in electrical and mechanical engineering to apply their skills in a collaborative environment.
The ideal candidate has evening and afternoon availability (flexible). Great for engineering students, recent grads, or working professionals looking to add a unique, high impact project to their portfolio.
Duties
- Assist in the design and development of electrical systems, including schematics and system architecture.
- Support FPGA programming, firmware development, and debugging using languages such as C++, Perl, Python, and scripting tools.
- Contribute to mechanical design tasks utilizing AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and SolidWorks for product development and manufacturing layouts.
- Perform signal processing analysis and system testing using MATLAB and other simulation tools like ANSYS.
- Collaborate on system integration involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs), ARM processors, and electrical hardware components.
- Develop detailed documentation including schematics, CAD drawings, and technical reports.
- Participate in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues during prototype testing or manufacturing phases.
- Support the creation of system design specifications and assist in the validation of engineering solutions.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles with experience in schematics, system design, and debugging.
- Mechanical knowledge with proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, or SolidWorks.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and / or mechanical engineering concepts.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics accurately.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in complex system integration tasks.
- Prior experience or familiarity with Arduino and ESP32 is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams. This volunteer position is ideal for motivated individuals seeking to expand their engineering expertise while contributing to meaningful projects in electrical and mechanical systems development.
