PERMANENT FULL-TIME E-LEARNING SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
at the
Lindsay Adult and Alternate Education Centre (VLC)

This permanent, full-time (12-month) position is available starting immediately. This position is replacing an existing position. Reporting to the Supervisor of E-Learning Technical Services, as part of the E-Learning team, the E-Learning Support Technician's primary role is to provide ongoing support of staff and students engaged in distributed learning initiatives. This includes providing telephone and email-technical support, as well as the ability to administer and troubleshoot a learning management system. Troubleshooting of Wide area network connectivity is also a function of the job.
The e-learning support technician will provide on-going maintenance and repairs of servers, computer and printer hardware specific to the e-learning department.
Additional responsibilities include administering user and mail accounts, administering IIS and databases. The incumbent must be prepared to be able to respond to an emergency and must be prepared for flexibility in terms of scheduling.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Two year college diploma in a related Technology program;
- Three years of related experience.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
-
Programming experience in Adobe ColdFusion, PHP, JavaScript and SQL.

Experience in the design and development of end-user interfaces.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- In-depth knowledge of computer hardware, software and all operating systems (Apple, Windows, Chrome).
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Experience in supporting MS Office, Google Suite, Canvas and Zoom
- Experience in Windows server administration, including IIS and SQL databases.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team
- Ability to concentrate, prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to lift and carry computer equipment
Duties/Responsibilities:

Assist, process, evaluate and prioritize VLC specific help desk requests (students and staff) and troubleshoot VLC issues (e.g. password resets, software not working, and exam proctoring software).

Email and/or meet with students and staff both in person and virtually to provide support solutions.

Research emerging technologies to support and enhance the e-learning program.

Research, document and implement solutions to technical issues.

Program, enhance and maintain the student information system written in Adobe Cold Fusion.

Configure, maintain, upgrade and provide support for existing technology.

Install new hardware, software and network solutions pertaining to the operation of the e-learning program

Support users making decisions about hardware replacements, software upgrades, and system reconfigurations, liaising with relevant resources.

Testing new software and documenting findings for use in the e-learning program, including the development of software training materials for system use.

Maintain accurate inventory records for all e-learning equipment.

Provide product and technical training to staff teachers and students,

Research and troubleshoot technical issues for staff, teachers, and students

Create procedures for course set up in the Learning Management System (LMS) to be followed by teachers and students

Deliver excellent customer service to system users including students and staff of the VLC.

Perform other related tasks as assigned.
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 12 month position
HOURLY WAGE: $31.21 (minimum) - $37.04 (maximum)
POINT BAND: 11 (Unionized Position)
