Job Summary
The Maintenance Associate (Class 5 Power Engineer) plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all plant equipment and utility systems, including the facility’s boiler and refrigeration systems. This position supports daily production operations by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and maintaining compliance with food safety and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the facility’s low-pressure boiler system in accordance with BC Safety Authority regulations (Class 5 Power Engineer).
- Perform preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment, refrigeration units, conveyors, pumps, and facility infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize production downtime.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new machinery or system upgrades.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment logs using the company’s CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Ensure that all maintenance activities meet HACCP, GMP, and food safety requirements.
- Work collaboratively with production, quality, and sanitation teams to support operational goals.
- Maintain a clean and organized maintenance workshop and ensure tools are properly stored and maintained.
- Follow all occupational health and safety protocols and participate in safety and food safety training programs.
- Provide after-hours or emergency maintenance support as required.
Experience
- Valid Class 5 Power Engineering Certificate (BC Safety Authority).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Work in cold or humid environments (production floor, cold storage).
- Perform physical tasks involving bending, climbing, and reaching.
Preferred Assets
- Experience with refrigeration (ammonia or glycol systems).
- PLC or VFD troubleshooting knowledge.
- Welding, fabrication, or millwright experience.
- Forklift or aerial lift certification.
- Minimum 2 years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing, processing, or industrial environment.
- Technical diploma or trade certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field preferred.
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, pumps, motors, control panels, and refrigeration systems.
- Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and food plant safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Computer literacy, including maintenance recordkeeping and parts tracking.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends or overtime as required.
