About the Role
This is a hybrid role spanning cloud infrastructure operations and DevOps engineering in a lean, high-autonomy environment. You will keep production systems running reliably while driving infrastructure automation using Terraform and Ansible, and you will not hand either off to someone else. This role is central to establishing an independent DevOps function, and the right candidate will see it as an opportunity to make a real mark on how we build and operate software.
What You'll Own
Cloud Infrastructure and Operations
- Deploy, manage, and maintain AWS infrastructure across EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, Route53, CloudWatch, and related services
- Administer Ubuntu-based cloud servers hosting our SaaS services
- Maintain website infrastructure and S3 integrations for software downloads and documentation
- Provision and onboard new ISV environments with proper configuration, isolation, and security
- Maintain security including IAM policies, secrets management, patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance controls
- Lead production access reviews and IAM least-privilege enforcement, establishing clear separation of duties between engineering and production administration
- Support ISO 27001, SOC 2, and customer/vendor security assessments through documentation, access controls, change management, and audit readiness
- Design and manage backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident response procedures
- Define recovery objectives, and regularly test and validate disaster recovery and business continuity plans
- Monitor system health, reliability, and cost; improve observability through metrics, logging, alerting, and dashboards
- Evaluate and implement failover strategies and load balancing improvements, reduce single points of failure, and establish measurable reliability objectives (SLOs)
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortem processes to improve platform reliability
- Coordinate production changes and deployments with minimal customer impact
- Occasionally communicate with customers to investigate critical issues with hosted solutions
- Provide on-call and off-hours support for production systems serving a global customer base
DevOps and Automation
- Drive infrastructure automation using Terraform and Ansible
- Manage and extend GitLab CI/CD pipelines including cross-platform builds for Windows, Linux, and Mac
- Expand automated deployment coverage across our service portfolio
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code across all environments
- Build hardened, minimal-footprint machine images and improve disk encryption practices to reduce attack surface
- Establish and maintain DevOps standards, runbooks, and infrastructure documentation
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineering, or a related role
- Proven hands-on AWS experience across EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, Route53, and CloudWatch
- Strong GitLab CI/CD experience including pipeline design and maintenance
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform preferred
- Ubuntu/Linux server administration and troubleshooting at the command line
- Scripting proficiency in Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell
- Solid networking fundamentals covering DNS, TLS, routing, firewalls, and security groups
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring and observability tooling
- Experience implementing security best practices in cloud-hosted production environments
- Experience supporting backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability systems
- Comfortable with on-call rotation and off-hours response for a global user base
- Proven ability to work independently and build structure where little exists
- Clear communicator in writing, verbally, and occasionally with customers during critical incidents
- Strong documentation habits; this role will define processes, not just follow them
Nice to Have
- Experience with hosted or multi-tenant SaaS environments
- Familiarity with Apache/MySQL/PHP stack
- Experience with cross-platform build pipelines covering Windows, Linux, and Mac
- AWS security and governance tooling including CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, and AWS Config
- Experience with Ansible, Packer, Docker, or Kubernetes
- Exposure to managed database services such as RDS, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
- Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks
- Experience inheriting and modernizing legacy infrastructure
- Familiarity with AI-assisted DevOps tooling or AI/ML infrastructure experience
Why Join Us
- Foundational ownership role with significant influence over infrastructure direction and standards
- Opportunity to modernize globally used production systems with a clear mandate and real autonomy
- Build an independent DevOps function from the ground up
- Remote-friendly, high-autonomy culture where initiative and craftsmanship are valued
