Professor Puffin’s Challenge Club is an after-school enrichment program that offers a fun, educational, and engaging experience for children in grades 1-4. The program uses a variety of activities to review subjects covered in the BC school curriculum (Science, art, nature, English, etc.) while mixing in entertaining topics to spark children’s interest. The program aims to develop teamwork, problem-solving skills, and focus, as well as expanded vocabulary and increased confidence.
Guaranteed 18 hours per week between mid-September to mid-June. School holidays off/unpaid. Between Aug. 13 and Sept. 22, hours are as needed.
Start date: ideally Aug. 13 2024, or some time between Aug. 13 and mid-Sept.
$1000 bonus provided after completing each full school year.
Main responsibilities:
- Must be available Mondays through Thursdays in the afternoons to observe/supervise instructors deliver lessons in elementary schools. Most lessons are from 2:50pm-4:30pm, but some start as early at 1:50pm and end as late as 5:45pm.
- Provide guidance and constructive feedback to instructors.
- Most schools are located in Vancouver and Burnaby, but you may also have to drive to other nearby cities. The time spent driving to the locations is paid.
- Sub in and deliver the lesson if an instructor is unavailable.
- Train new instructors.
- Content creation for the program. Hours that are not spent observing or subbing in schools will be spent at home creating content.
- Various administrative tasks (work from home, must have computer, etc.)
- Occasionally attend events promoting the program.
- Occasionally deliver flyers to accounts.
Requirements:
- Must be available Monday to Thursday afternoons.
- Significant experience teaching/leading groups of children ages 6 to 10 years old.
- Mature, dependable and organized.
- Energetic and enthusiastic.
- Experience using a tablet.
- General knowledge of school subjects.
- Must have reliable access to a car (car-share not an option), valid driver's licence and good driving record.
- Criminal background check for vulnerable sectors.
- Live in the city of Vancouver or Burnaby.
- Experience doing various administrative tasks using a computer.
- Interest in games and trivia.
- Clear spoken English (Other languages an asset).
