EFry Health Services Society operates the EFry Health Centre, an integrated Community Health Centre providing primary care, dental care, mental health and allied health services to underserved women and children.
Located in Central Surrey, just half a block from Surrey Memorial Hospital, the EFry Health Centre is situated within one of Surrey’s growing health-care and innovation hubs. Our newly built Health Centre brings together physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, registered clinical counsellors, a dietitian, a physiotherapist, a kinesiologist, community health workers and dental providers in a collaborative, team-based model of care.
Our dental clinic is a modern three-operatory practice with state-of-the-art equipment, developed to improve access to oral health care for patients who may otherwise experience significant barriers to receiving dental services.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate and community-minded Associate Dentist to become the primary dentist for the EFry Health Services Society not-for-profit dental clinic.
Our dental program is currently supported by a dedicated group of volunteer dentists, and we are ready to take the next step in building a more consistent and sustainable dental service. We are looking for a dentist who is excited by the opportunity to establish an ongoing presence within the clinic, provide continuity of care for our patients, and help us continue to grow and develop the program.
We anticipate the primary dentist will provide approximately 7 to 21 hours of clinical service per week, with flexibility in how those hours are scheduled.
The dentist will be supported by our dental team and the broader Health Centre team. We are currently recruiting a Dental Hygienist to support the practice, and during the academic year, the clinic hosts UBC Dental Hygiene students, further contributing to our focus on education, prevention and accessible oral health care.
About the Role
As our Associate Dentist, you will provide comprehensive, high-quality dental care in a welcoming, trauma-informed and patient-centred environment. You will develop ongoing relationships with patients and work collaboratively with the Health Centre’s interdisciplinary team to support both oral health and overall health and well-being.
This is an opportunity to practice dentistry differently. Our patients may face financial, social, health or other barriers to accessing regular dental care, and many have had limited access to preventive and restorative services.
We are looking for a dentist who combines strong clinical skills with compassion, flexibility and a genuine interest in improving access to care.
This position is particularly well suited to a dentist who wants to make a meaningful impact in the community while becoming part of an innovative, integrated health-care team.
Duties
- Perform a wide range of dental procedures including examinations, restorations, extractions, crowns, and preventive care with precision and care.
- Collaborate with dental hygienists, assistants, and office staff to ensure seamless patient experiences.
- Maintain detailed patient records using dental practice management software like ClearDent/Tracker for efficient documentation and follow-up.
- Communicate clearly with patients about diagnoses, treatment options, and post-treatment instructions while addressing their concerns with empathy.
- Stay current on the latest developments in dentistry, especially pediatric dentistry (Pediatrics), to provide age-appropriate care.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including proper sterilization procedures and medical terminology standards.
Experience
- Proven experience working in a busy dental office environment with a strong understanding of dental procedures and patient care.
- Experience with oral sedation an asset.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to dentistry enhances communication with patients and healthcare providers.
- Prior experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and digital radiography is advantageous.
- A valid dental license in good standing is required to practice independently.
