Purpose:
Facilities Services is a team of professionals who are committed to the delivery of support services that strive to enhance the quality of campus life for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. We are responsible for providing a safe, clean, productive and well-maintained physical learning and working environment through the effective planning and delivery of professional services in design, construction, maintenance, utilities, caretaking and grounds. With a commitment to sustainability, equity, diversity and inclusion, Facilities Services works with campus partners to provide exceptional customer service and satisfaction in alignment with the University's core values.To provide preventive and corrective maintenance to institutional buildings and infrastructure in support of the York University community. Working under limited supervision, monitors building system operations and performance. Utilizes several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating and cooling. The Building Operator takes full ownership of the buildings they are assigned and provides excellent customer service, working with the client from beginning to end to ensure full resolution and total satisfaction with services provided.
Education:
Must hold a valid Building Environmental Systems (BES) Operator Class I certification or equivalent. Trade school training preferred in one or more of the following: electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, stationary engineering, painting, plumbing, locksmith and carpentry. 4th Class Power Engineer designation is an asset. Must hold a valid Ontario driver's license (Class G') in good standing. applicants will be required to provide a recent driver's record.
Experience:
Minimum of five years' recent and directly related experience in maintaining large institutional buildings. Experience in an institutional or post-secondary environment required. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (such as Maximo) required. Experience with building automation systems (such as Metasys), building lighting systems and other automation systems preferred.
Skills:
Ability to work safely and meet physical requirements including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of up to 50 lbs. Ability to use power and hand tools safely. Ability to work safely on scaffolds and ladders. Basic computer skills Word, Excel, Email. Ability to use a computer work order system, automation systems, and complete computerized training. Ability to communicate effectively with strong customer service and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and show initiative. Ability to work as a part of a team. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation where only limited standardization exists. Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Must promote the culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners. Participates in an on-call rotation.
