The Opportunity
Helix is growing, and we're looking for an Electronic Drafting and Design Technologist (EDDT) to join our bridge and road design team. This is a chance to work alongside experienced engineers on a wide variety of infrastructure projects from forest-road bridges to roadway projects with municipalities and Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors. You will be able to see your drawings carried through from concept to construction. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise drawings for bridges, culverts, and road infrastructure using CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D)
- Develop general arrangement drawings, details, and sections by working in a collaborative environment with engineers and other designers
- Support development of standard design drawings and detail libraries
- Prepare drawings for tender, construction, and as-built packages
- Assist with quantity takeoffs and material schedules
- Coordinate revisions through internal QA/QC review cycles and incorporate client/reviewer comments
- Maintain drawing standards, title blocks, and file management per company and client requirements
- Support field data integration (survey, inspection notes) into design drawings
- Liaise with project engineers, project managers, and external clients/reviewers as needed
Qualifications
- Diploma in Civil/Structural Engineering Technology, CAD/Drafting, or related technical program (CET/Applied Sci Tech designation an asset)
- 3+ years of drafting/design experience in bridge, structural, or civil infrastructure design (transportation sector experience preferred)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects/deadlines
- Effective communicator, comfortable working within a small, collaborative technical team
- Experience with forest-road, resource, or municipal bridge projects considered a strong asset
