The Seabee Gold Operation is an underground gold mining and milling operation, located near Laonil Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, approximately 125 kilometers northeast of the town of La Ronge. The Santoy underground mine has been in continuous commercial production since 2014. Commercial production at the Seabee underground mine commenced in 1991 and exhausted Mineral Resources in 2018. All ore is processed at the Seabee mill facility, which has been in operation since 1991.
This position is situated in our Saskatoon office with frequent travel to mine site.
As a key member of Seabee Gold Operation’s (SGO) management team and reporting directly to the General Manager, this position is responsible for leading the financial affairs of the mine including financial, cost and capital reporting and supporting the management team to improve performance of the mine. The role ensures financial processes, financial systems and a control environment within SGO that support accurate, complete and compliant reporting of financial information to the Corporate Reporting team to support SSR Mining’s internal and external reporting requirements.
This position coordinates and directs the finance function for the mine by providing leadership to the various team members, including setting KPIs, performance management, and mentoring and coaching, in achievement of the goals and objectives of financial activities (in accordance with corporate strategies and policies) and to ensure compliance by local staff.
The Manager, Finance will form strong relationships with the General Manager, Department Managers, Superintendents and the Finance group within the Corporate office. Key external stakeholders include auditors, regulators, the province of Saskatchewan and consultants.
Responsible for SGO’s financial systems, control environment and financial and performance reporting in compliance with IFRS and Corporate policies
Coordination, preparation and review of monthly reports, cost reports, Board reports, External quarterly financial statements, performance metrics and analysis of variances
Preparation and coordination with SGO management team on annual Budget, Forecast and Strategic Business Plans
Development of accounting, costing and finance/payroll policies and procedures
Maintain and enhance a strong activity-based costing framework
Strong communication with General Manager and all site managers regarding financial performance, cost performance and KPI
Strong communication with Corporate team and adherence to corporate standards, policies and controls
Maintain a structured and robust monthly close process to ensure all information is verified and entered in the accounting system based on policies, IFRS and standards.
FX translation of foreign subsidiaries
Lead the development and implementation of new initiatives to improve the accounting processes.
Ensure best practice methods are maintained and benchmarked against other operations, internal and external
Overall people and administrative leadership for the Saskatoon office
Ensure the safety of all employees and contractors working within the Saskatoon office.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, majoring in Accounting and Finance and a professional accounting designation preferred.
10 years+ related accounting and general office experience required, including both cost and financial accounting disciplines within a mining environment.
Knowledge and competency regarding IFRS
Significant ERP and accounting system experience
People leadership skills.
Strong understanding of accounting/financial procedures and administration and office management.
Knowledge of economic, budgeting, and accounting principles, compliance and practices.
Experience leading major change initiatives an asset.
Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions
Individual is able to prioritize effectively, work within strict deadlines and align individual work with the organization’s business objectives
Frequent work on mine site with the management team in a fly in/fly out camp environment
