First Peoples Wellness Circle (FPWC) is an Indigenous-led national not-for-profit dedicated to enhancing the lives of First Peoples in Canada by addressing healing, wellness, and mental wellness barriers. The organization’s purpose is to walk with and support First Peoples and communities to share collective intelligence for healing, peace-making, and living a good life. FPWC’s approach is centred on promoting wellness pathways based on traditional knowledge and culture that supports healing and wellness and fosters a two-eyed seeing approach. FPWC’s new strategic plan encompasses four main objectives: Growth, The Framework, Relationships, and Collective Intelligence. Through these objectives, we seek to build relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and build workforce capacity by sharing collective intelligence and implementing the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework. The FPWC works diligently to advocate for transformative change, aiming to create wellness and whole health pathways for Canada’s First Peoples shaped by diverse Indigenous cultural lenses and knowledge.
Position Summary
We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Learning and Resource Development Specialist. This is a nine-month fixed-term, full-time (37.5 hours per week), fully remote position from July 2026 to March 2027. There is a possibility of contract extension, pending funding. Our head office is located in North Bay, Ontario and individuals from Ontario may be given preference.
Under the direction and supervision of the Special Projects Program Manager, the Learning and Resource Development Specialist is responsible for providing resource development to support the Special Projects team. This role plays an integral part in delivering and evaluating dementia‑related learning modules and in the creation and customization of resource materials on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). The Learning and Resource Development Specialist will also lead the customization and development of a Dementia Wandering Toolkit, ensuring all materials are responsive to the needs of the First Nation Mental Wellness Workforce, with a particular focus on the Indian Residential School (IRS) workforce.
Key Responsibilities
● Customize and develop a Dementia Wandering toolkit that is culturally relevant to a First Nation mental wellness workforce, including the IRS workforce.
● Lead In-Person dementia-focused learning modules and apply participant feedback to improve training quality
● Participate in project consultation with internal and external stakeholders to analyze and identify learning needs to customize existing learning materials for the Mental Wellness Workforce
● Work with subject matter experts to scope, design and develop new and engaging content that apply adult learning principles and reflect appreciation of diverse audiences and delivery settings.
● Provide advice on concepts, delivery modalities, and instructional design as required to projects/research containing resource components.
● Continuously identify opportunities to improve developed tools while maintaining high quality standard learning resources
Skills & Competencies
● Knowledge and understanding of First Nation Mental Wellness and its workforce including Mental Wellness Teams, IRS Resolution Health Support, Trauma Specialist workforce and Cultural Support workforce
● Ability to develop resources with evidence of applied best practice adult learning methodologies.
● Understanding of Indigenous ways of teaching and learning.
● Experience collecting, analyzing and interpreting data from a variety of sources (i.e., existing literature, surveys, interviews, focus groups).
● Ability to create a consistent work output while maintaining high quality.
● Ability to work effectively, liaise and maintain relationships with partners, stakeholders, and colleagues.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills including skills in editing and proofreading.
● Excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and conflict-resolution skills.
● Knowledge of and ability to work in a manner respectful of First Nation cultures, values, and beliefs.
● Understanding and integration of Two-Eyed seeing and strengths-based approaches.
● Ability to act with discretion and handle confidential and privileged information.
● Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, Creative Cloud, and WPEngine (Web Hosting/WordPress).
● Excellent time management, organizational and administrative skills.
● Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
● Knowledge or use of an Indigenous language and/or bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset.
Qualifications
● Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor's Degree in mental wellness or related helping field.
● Two (2) + years of experience developing resources, curriculum, online lessons and other learning materials.
● Experience working in a First Nation community or with Indigenous groups.
● Experience working with First Nation or Indigenous workforces or communities and/or not-for-profit setting
● Experience working with multiple partners and stakeholders
● This position is fully remote, work from home role
● Access to reliable internet, and private office space to work is required
