Lumenus offers an array of specialized services to children, youth and adults who experience mental health, and developmental challenges. Services are offered in-center, and in the community. This position is part of our interdisciplinary consultation team that supports a broad range of programs and services at Lumenus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of Lumenus’ specialized consultation team, the Speech and Language Pathologist is responsible for:
- Through the administration of standardized diagnostic tests or informal assessmentmeasures completes assessments and identifies problem areas for clients who are referred for speech and language service;
- Participate in screening activities that promote early identification and understanding ofspeech and language and communication needs;
- Establishes written treatment goals and plans to address client problem areas;
- Provides direct and indirect client care in accordance with the treatment plan;
- Evaluates the impact of speech and language treatment intervention on identified problems;
- Maintains communication with all other team members regarding client care;
- Participates in meetings with other community-based service providers who are involved in client’s care;
- Documents speech and language therapy involvement in client record;
- Provide suggestions and materials to support staff and other service providers involved with the child’s treatment plan;
- Review assessment findings with the client’s family and service team, if applicable;
- Provide modeling of therapeutic strategies to support staff, educators, and others to ensure consistency in all teaching environments;
- Provide consultative services to family members, other caregivers and other community agencies involved with the client;
- When necessary and with parental consent, support referrals to outside professionals;
- Comply with the Regulated Health Professions Act and CASLPO regulations;
- Maintains clinical competence;
- Maintains communication with all other staff members;
- Supports Lumenus’ efforts in Quality Assurance activities, as required;
- Participates in education, orientation, and public relations, as required;
- Maintains a safe work environment;
- Performs designated administrative duties;
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university;
- Member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-LanguagePathologists of Ontario (CASLPO);
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children and youth with mental health, autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities is considered an asset;
- Knowledge and application of Speech and Language therapy framework, philosophy and theory, interpretation of standardized and non-standardized assessments,knowledge of development (typical/non-typical), and of appropriate SLP intervention strategies and techniques.
- Knowledge and experience in implementing principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis is considered an asset;
- Well-developed communication skills including verbal, non-verbal, presentation and listening skills.
- Current knowledge of speech, language and communication development in children, youth and individuals;
- Knowledge of communication disorders and delays in children and youth;
- Knowledge of mental health and developmental/social-emotional needs in children and youth (e.g. autism, developmental delay);
- Strong consultation and conceptual analysis skills;
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills;
- Experience participating on an interdisciplinary team is considered an asset;
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- Fluency in French is considered an asset;
- The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Police Records Check(Vulnerable Sector Screening), and proof of vaccination for Covid-19;
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable vehicle, or appropriate transportation.
