ABOUT ADVENT HEALTH
Advent Health Care is an independent, not-for-profit, registered charity affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is led by a volunteer board of directors. Advent Health Care is currently developing a residential community centered on providing services for seniors. Advent Health owns and operates Valleyview Residence, a long-term care facility and has just recently opened Forestview Retirement Residence, an independent and assisted-living retirement home.
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
Under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager, the Laundry Aide is responsible for performing laundry department tasks in an efficient and co-operative manner, with due consideration for the needs and comforts of the residents.
BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS
Must have at least a grade 10 education. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in the English language. Needs to be able to perform heavy lifting tasks, and have visual acuity for inspecting linens. Some experience in an institutional laundry department is desirable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Collects soiled linens and personal clothing as outlined in the facility's policy and procedures.
· Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.) activities.
· Sorts according to color and type and pre-treat stains as required.
· Loads and unloads washers and dryers ensuring that proper settings are used for each type of load and that chemical supplies are at an appropriate level.
· Inspects soiled linens or personal laundry to determine types of repairs needed. Mends rips, tears and thin spots in curtain, bed and table linens, and repairs personal clothing for residents on the Personal Clothing service. Sets aside linen not repairable for salvage use, and records same.
· Folds, segregates, and stacks linens and residents' personal clothing. Ironing is done only if necessary.
· Assembles carts with required quantity of bed linens and towels and delivers to linen storage closets on each floor.
· Returns laundered clothing to closets and drawers of residents, ensuring that each article is properly marked with name and room number.
· Identifies all newly received linens with facility's name, date of circulation, and records same.
· Ensures that laundry room, linen closets, and all equipment and carts are kept in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
· Ensures that housekeeping aides have sufficient clean dry mop heads and rags to assume their duties.
· Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
· Performs duties outlined in work schedule of laundry aide as required, and other related duties as assigned.
Pay: $23.95 per hour
