DELTA CEDAR SAWMILL, a highly respected coastal sawmill located along the Fraser River in Delta, British Columbia, is actively seeking a highly motivated Full-Time Millwright/Welder. Delta Cedar Sawmill is owned by the Delta Forestry Group, a privately held group of companies with a long history of consistent operations on the BC Coast. Established in 1958, Delta Sawmill places a large emphasis on quality, value, development, and stability for its customers and employees. We have a highly skilled long-term workforce that produces high-value products while achieving maximum product recovery and are always looking for new additions to our Delta team.
Job Summary:
As a Millwright, you will report to the Maintenance Manager and Lead-Hand Millwright. You will assist with the maintenance, repair, and installation of machinery and mechanical systems that are vital to our sawmill operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to play a key role within the organization to contribute towards ensuring the smooth running of a high-demand industrial operation.
Key Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of sawmill machinery and equipment - including: Cylinders, conveyors, chains, values, saws, pumps, motors, and other mechanical systems
- boats, splitters, and other mobile equipment, as needed
- burning, welding, grinding, painting, fabricating (metal & wood), and hand tools
- monitoring sprinklers system, repairing compressed air leaks
- Contribute towards diagnostic and system/process efficiency for mechanical issues and equipment.
- Maintain machine tolerances to maintain product quality standards.
- Work well with a team of tradespeople to ensure all machinery is functioning safely and efficiently.
- Perform preventative maintenance as part of regular maintenance schedules.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Participate in training and certification opportunities to further develop skills and qualifications.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including maintenance logs and service reports.
Qualifications:
- Education: Completed BCTQ Millwright “Red Seal” certification, or working on it
- Experience: Prior experience with sawmills is required. Preference given to those with minimum 5 years mill experience.
- Physical: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in a physically demanding environment, work outdoors, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity and coordination.
- Safety-Focused: Strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to safety protocols.
- Team Player: Ability to work well with other in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work rotating shifts, (Day/Afternoon/Graveyard) as required
- Excellent multi-tasking and prioritization capability
- Must be eligible to work in Canada and posses strong English (oral, reading and written)
