The Engineering team within the Professional and Program Services (PPS) Branch, Ministry Services Division, is seeking a Facilities and Infrastructure Engineer to deliver critical technical evaluations, provide expert advice, and support key policy initiatives across Alberta’s resource sectors.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the position will involve providing analytical and technical leadership in evaluating extraction, upgrading, and refining facilities, downstream processing or separation facilities, mass and energy balances, energy technology pathways, and carbon capture & handling systems that inform key policy and operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and evaluate cost allocation approaches and annual submissions.
- Assess project economics, including forecasts and cost estimates for oil sands infrastructure.
- Model energy facilities (upgraders, refineries, petrochemical) and project performance.
- Review project feasibility, performance, and production assumptions.
- Assess emerging technologies and provide lifecycle emissions input.
- Contribute to briefings, working groups, and technical presentations.
- Provide engineering support to audit, legal, policy, and operations teams.
- Document methodologies and maintain professional engineering standards (APEGA).
- Monitor technology trends in Alberta’s energy sector.
- Provide ad hoc technical support across the team, including Resource Development Assessment.
