CJNU is Winnipeg's Community Radio Station - and is a not-for-profit broadcasting co-operative. We are a listener supported, volunteer driven organization. We are looking for new volunteer Newscasters to join our team, and assist in the preparation, scripting, and delivery of news reports. While these are volunteer roles, a modest honorarium will be made available. It is expected that individuals joining our team will be volunteering approximately two hours per day, at least one day per week, with the potential to provide coverage on additional days. It is expected that Newscasters will be delivering their reports from home, or alternately will be able to participate in the Breakfast programming from our studio in downtown Winnipeg.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Present clear, informative and entertaining information to a mature listening audience
  • Provide pre-recorded (or possibly live) newscasts which follow a designated format, using approved news sources
  • Provide timely newscast updates as required
  • Ensure information provided is researched, fact checked and follows approved format
  • Ensure appropriate follow through and sharing of information related to news releases and communiques etc.
  • Potentially attend news events pertinent to our mandate and listening demographic and provide timely reports to the listening audience

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of current events, sports and entertainment, with a local focus
  • Ability to write tightly, quickly and to deadline
  • Ability to operate sound editing equipment
  • Pleasant, courteous, friendly personality with a keen interest in CJNU
  • Professional in voice and appearance
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Self-directed, willing to take initiate and detail-oriented

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience in radio an asset
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of audio editing suites such as Audacity

Additional Notes

  • Must be able to produce material from home, or willing to travel to the CJNU studio in the early morning
  • Must be able to travel to CJNU locations independently
  • Training for this role will be provided
