- Operate hand-jack and/or forklift to load/unload trailers
- Ensure that equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized
- Ensure that Growing Rooms, Hallways, and Back Hallway are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized
- Unload tractor of peat moss, etc. and verify quantity and any receiving issues.
- Filling and Emptying Growing Rooms
- Follow companies Food Safety Plan (SQF Code) i.e. GMP’s, SOP’s
- Set up packaging machines for orders, set up wrap and labels
- Check metal detector and complete checklist as required
- Transport harvested mushrooms from the harvesting area to the Packing/Weighing Department
- Ensure that Daily Checklist – Handjack sheet is completed at the beginning of the day
- Ensure mushrooms harvested are acceptable and within specifications
- Ensure harvested mushrooms are all accounted for and recorded accurately and correctly on all paperwork
- Vacuum cool the bulk fresh picked product
- Organize coolers based on the FIFO (First In, First Out) methods
- Other tasks as assigned
Elemental Job Components
- General labourers will be working indoors in a temperature-controlled, well-lit environment. They may be subject to conditions such as humidity and cold as they travel throughout the farm. Applicants will work closely with the management team and other staff.
- General labourers must have good physical stamina to endure long days in an agricultural environment. Applicants should be comfortable lifting 50+lbs on a regular basis. They may be expected to work in areas that have repetitive tasks including but not limited to standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Co-workers must communicate at all times, especially when operating heavy equipment and machinery.
Hours of Work
- The regular shift begins daily at 5:30 AM and ends when the general labourers are dismissed or as negotiated by management.
