HOURS: 35 hours per week (Monday - Friday, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours
PAY RATE: $27.88 per hour
START DATE: Immediately

We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, settlement, and language training together with specialized programs for trades, women, seniors, and youth.
The Vocational Instructor will deliver employment preparation and job search workshops for pre-arrival clients to enhance employability skills and provide Canadian-specific job search strategies to improve employment outcomes. The role will focus on equipping clients with workplace communication skills, career exploration techniques, and knowledge of Canadian workplace culture to support successful integration upon arrival in Canada

Design and deliver in-person and online employment preparation workshops to newcomer clients, utilizing SfC’s learning management system.

Create, evaluate, and update workshop materials, including maintenance of online learning management platform resources.

Design and implement innovative program elements including workshops on communication, workplace expectations, intercultural workplace issues etc. for participants

Create opportunities for participants to practice their professional communication skills in a variety of “authentic” contexts, e.g.,making presentations, role plays, videos, developing a portfolio, using the telephone, resolving conflict, dealing with cross-cultural differences.

Provide individual counselling, career management, action plans, and job search support (online and/or in person) to clients including cold calling, networking, resume preparation and interview skills enhancement.

Maintain client case management files, update client information on OCMS, and prepare and submit required statistical and monthly/quarterly and annual reports.

Follow up with clients at 4-6 week, 3 month, and 12 month mark to assess clients’ employment status and offer additional support.

Develop and implement an outreach strategy to engage newcomer clients, build and maintain partnerships with employers and community agencies, and establish job leads while promoting SfC programs and raising the agency’s profile.

Develop and implement a digital outreach strategy to connect with pre-arrival clients, leveraging social media, online forums, and partner networks.

Analyze client progress data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for enhancing workshop content and delivery methods.

Research and update program materials to reflect current labour market information to support program delivery and client needs.

Contribute to program and agency promotional activities as needed including info sessions, refresher sessions, networking events and workshops.

Provide guidance on the foreign credential recognition (FCR) process for regulated professions and assist clients in identifying appropriate licensing bodies and pathways.

Ensure all activities align with funder goals, program targets, and agency objectives.

Ability to collect and analyse data, trends and report them adequately.

Collaborate with settlement team and other SfC staff to coordinate client services, monitor progress, conduct follow-up, and assist with outreach, assessment and intake.

Assist in the evaluation of services and present solutions to enhance service delivery on an on-going basis.

Attend trainings and staff meetings as required.

Handle other duties as assigned.

A Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Adult Education is required

A University degree or college diploma in career planning and employment counselling is an asset
-
A minimum of 3 years of experience developing and delivering online and in-class learning training programs is required

A minimum of 3 years of providing career planning and employment counselling is required
-
Knowledge of a second language is an asset
-
A completed TESL/TESOL certificate recognized by TESL Canada required
-
Registered with the Ontario College of Teachers would be an asset
-
Formal teaching/instructor experience with adult learning principles, techniques, and pedagogy methodology is required ¤ Solid knowledge of school programs, community resources, and services in the Greater Toronto Area

Excellent facilitation and employment counselling skills

Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills

Proficiency in MS Office, ability to deliver PowerPoint presentations

Proficiency in iCARE would be an asset

Strong interpersonal and client service skills as well as a positive attitude towards change

Initiative and persistence to complete tasks as well as excellent time management and teamwork skills

Critical thinking skills and resourcefulness in meeting clients’ employment support needs

Sensitivity to and understanding of issues of concern to immigrants and refugees

The ability to secure a Police Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory and must be provided before starting employment.
