Detailed Overview: Under the direction of the Head Cook, the Cook I participates in the preparation of conventional and therapeutic meals and Ready Foods; ensures all food is labelled, proportioned and stored safely. Responsibilities:
Prepares menu items following established menus, recipes, computer generated tally sheets and quantity requirements. Determines ingredients, quantities and equipment required for cooking.
Cooks and seasons assigned food and therapeutic diet items such as breakfast food, soups, roasts, baked items, desserts, salads and salad plates.
Packages, labels and portions Ready Foods.
Follows food safe handling practices such as storing/holding food at correct temperature, checking expiry dates, washing hands frequently and rotating stock.
Cleans work area and cooking equipment such as steam kettles, mixers, meat sclicers, counters and grilling areas.
Stores, labels, dates and makes effective use of leftovers.
Participates in the set-up, serving and running for the trayline.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
Graduation from a recognized 12 month program in cooking or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Successful completion of a recognized Food Safe Certificate.

Ability to deal effectively with others.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to organize work
Ability to operate related equipment.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
