Hickman Automotive Group is seeking an experienced and motivated Accounting Manager who can lead the daily operations of the accounting team, understand the numbers, challenge the status quo, and partner with the business to drive strong financial performance across our dealership group. This position is based out of our Hickman Chevrolet Cadillac location in St. John's, NL.
Reporting directly to the Comptroller, the Accounting Manager will lead Hickman Automotive Group’s accounting department and assist with overall responsibility for the integrity of the company’s financial records, internal controls, reporting processes and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee the accounting functions, including Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Accounting, across both corporate and branch operations.

Accounts Payable: Monitor invoice processing and payment timelines, oversee vendor account and statement reconciliations, and ensure unresolved balances are appropriately actioned

Accounts Receivable: Monitor outstanding receivable balances and aging, review discrepancies, and ensure customer accounts are accurately maintained.

Payroll: Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll, completion of payroll reconciliations, and submission of statutory remittances.
Establish consistent accounting procedures, controls, reporting, and best practices.
Ensuring timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes across all operations.

Oversee balance sheet account reconciliations and supporting schedules, ensuring accounts are properly maintained, reviewed and any issues resolved.

Oversee and complete monthly intercompany reconciliations across the dealership group, ensuring balances are accurate and discrepancies are promptly resolved.

Assist in monitoring internal controls and accounting processes, identifying financial risks, control weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.

Liaise with banks, auditors, and external stakeholders and provide timely information and support as required.

Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, collaboration, confidentiality and continuous improvement across the accounting functions.

Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.

Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is strongly preferred. Significant progress toward a CPA designation will be considered an asset.

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience supervising or leading a team.

Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.

Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, tax compliance and financial reporting.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex reconciliations involving high transaction volumes and significant dollar values

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with accounting systems such as CDK would be a significant asset.

Experience developing internal controls and improving accounting processes.

Experience with cross-border Canadian–U.S. operations is a significant asset.

Automotive or dealership accounting experience would be considered an asset.

Systems & Technology Skills – Strong Excel skills and the ability to effectively use and understand accounting/DMS systems and reporting tools.
