The Health, Safety and Emergency Response Coordinator is a self-motivated team leader who demonstrates familiarity and leadership in both the technical aspects of safety management, as well as strong coaching skills, knowledge in behavioral based safety and provides visible felt leadership. The role is site based and will report directly to the Manager of Health, Safety, Training and Emergency Response (HSTER). This position works a 2/2 schedule.
The Health, Safety and Emergency Response Coordinator is responsible for supporting, developing, administering, and implementing companywide occupational safety programs and emergency response leadership as part of the HSTER team. The role will be exposed to all aspects of the department and responsible for administering appropriate training and emergency response for all site activities. The role will support all onsite departments in ensuring that the company’s safety programs are both efficient and effective, while meeting and exceeding legislative requirements.
Key Job Functions
- Provide leadership as a safety champion for all site safety procedures and the promotion of our safety culture.
- Responsible for safety orientation, safety training, job site inspections and reporting.
- Maintain awareness of all relevant legislation including the Health and Safety Reclamation Code, Mines Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and other required legislation for British Columbia, and their implementation.
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports, and recommendations.
- Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all employees and subcontractors.
- Develop, oversee, and review the principles of hazard identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation.
- Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for Cambria supervisors and field employees, regarding WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues, etc.
- Support the onsite Departments in executing projects through the development of risk assessments, field level risk assessment, job hazard analysis, orientations, and emergency response plans.
- Support effective incident investigations and ensure timely reporting to the Manager of HSTER.
- Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.
- Provide guidance to field personnel via safety briefings.
- Maintain the Health, Safety and Training databases and local SharePoint sites.
- Promote the focus on Occupational Health and Hygiene exposure recognition, monitoring and mitigation; responsible for identifying all exposure groups and managing subsequent mitigation measures.
- Report on leading and lagging indicators and company metrics, monthly reporting to Regulators and annual reporting on both safety and training KPIs.
- Design safety standards to conform to industry standards and federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Lead Emergency Response training for both underground and surface emergency response teams and provide general education to all site employees regarding emergency response.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintaining and inspecting rescue equipment, ensuring its readiness and compliance with safety standards
- Routinely inspect and manage the preventative maintenance requirements for all emergency response equipment and tools including but not limited to: mine rescue team equipment, refuge stations, escapeways, self rescuers, first aid and AED equipment, eye wash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems and fire alarm systems.
· Developing and implementing ERT and MRT Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training matrix, training records, equipment records and other departmental documentation required for effective management of emergency response.

Required
- Five to seven years' experience in occupational health and safety in a mining or a heavy industrial setting. A minimum of three years in an underground mine setting either in construction or operations.
- Minimum of four years in mine rescue on an underground mine rescue team. Preferrable to have underground mine rescue experience both on a team and instructing a team.
- Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, Incident Investigations, ICAM, First Aid, etc.) is considered a strong asset.
- Solid understanding of the regulatory framework associated with appropriate local, national, and international health, safety, and environmental legislations.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of the principles of Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Mitigation
- Demonstrated auditing and inspection skills.
- Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
- Must hold a valid Underground or Surface Mine Rescue Certification. Preference given to candidates who hold a valid Underground Mine Rescue Certificate for BC.
- Must hold a valid BC Mines Supervisor Certificate.
- Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives in a team setting are prerequisites.
Working Conditions
- Physical ability to lift 50lbs.
- Working and living in a camp setting (Fly In, Fly Out).
- Ability to work both inside, outside, and underground.
- Overtime as required.

Pay: $105,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
