Job Purpose

The Bank’s Internal Audit Department plays a key role in the risk management process of the Bank. Our mandate is to provide independent and objective assurance over the design and operation of the Bank’s internal controls and to advise senior management on improvements to the Bank’s operations.

The role of the Data Analyst is to query and process data from various sources, and provide reports, summaries, and visualizations on that data to support ongoing Audits, Continuous Monitoring initiatives, and the team's overall strategy. The incumbent will work as part of a team of Data Analysts, Data Engineers and Data Scientists that includes experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds and who are familiar with a majority of the Bank's data sources. Our Audit universe covers all activities in the Bank, including Canadian and International Banking, Group Treasury, Global Banking and Markets, Wealth, Enterprise, AML and virtually all other Canadian-housed functions.

The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of R, statistics and basic analytics from the theoretical and practical perspective, as well as solid working knowledge of data acquisition and transformation. As well, the ideal candidate will be able to quickly acquire new skills and understand new tools and technologies to support the team's ongoing growth and Audit's strategic initiatives. We are looking for a versatile, agile learner to grow within the team.

Accountabilities

  • Identify, acquire and use large volumes of data to provide incremental business value through analytical tools and techniques
  • Develop and enhance visual dashboards to enable data-based Continous Monitoring throughout Audit
  • Work with large datasets and distributed computing tools for analysis, data mining and modeling
  • Prepare detailed documentation to outline data sources, tools and results
  • Work independently to support individual audits, and collaboratively with both the team and Auditors on larger projects
Education/Experience

  • Degree in Statistics, Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools like R, Python or SAS
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience using and implementing visualization tools like Microsoft Power BI or Tableau would be an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with good problem solving skills
  • Willingness to jump in and learn new tools as needed to support strategic initiatives
  • Previous experience with data analytics or similar functions
  • At a minimum, requires an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant technical qualifications such as a graduate degree in a quantitative field or professional training in data science or analysis.
