Overview
We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer to lead and support process design and optimization activities for capital projects within a downstream manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality engineering deliverables, providing technical oversight to contractors, and managing projects from authorization through close-out.
This is an onsite, individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibilities, ideal for someone experienced in oil & gas or refining who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Responsibilities
As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in both design and execution. Your core responsibilities include:
- Leading the development of process design specifications, including heat & material balances, process flow diagrams, equipment sizing, and utility/hydraulic calculations
- Providing technical guidance to junior engineers and ensuring consistency and quality of deliverables
- Performing process optimization studies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and evaluate alternative configurations
- Overseeing and reviewing engineering contractor deliverables during FEED and detailed engineering to ensure alignment with company standards
- Participating in HAZOP and safety reviews for new and modified facilities
- Supporting commissioning and start-up activities as needed
- Managing multiple capital projects simultaneously ($1MM–$50MM) from initiation through close-out
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of technical expertise and project experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
- 5–15 years of experience in process or project engineering within oil & gas, refining, or chemical manufacturing
- Experience working in downstream, brownfield environments and supporting capital project development
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong understanding of process design, optimization, and safety systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong technical communication skills in English
Preferred:
- Experience in oil & gas downstream operations
- Background working with or supporting engineering contractors
