Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with an additional shift on Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Start Date: September 2026
Note: This position may transition to Full-Time based on program needs.
About Us
Centennial Infant and Child Centre (CICC) is a not-for-profit organization supporting children with developmental needs and their families. We provide inclusive early learning, therapeutic, and family-centred programs, including our specialized preschool for children ages 18 months to 4 years, our home-visiting Early Intervention service, including Hospital-to-Home (H2H), and our Child Care Resource Consultation program.
CICC also operates a volunteer program, providing meaningful ways for community members to support our programs and engage with children and families. We are committed to inclusion, collaboration, and helping every child and family reach their full potential.
Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, highly organized, and collaborative Preschool Teacher (Registered Early Childhood Educator) to join our therapeutic preschool team. The ideal candidate brings demonstrated expertise supporting children with developmental delays, medical complexities, or extra support needs and is highly confident working within a transdisciplinary model.
Reporting to the Managing Supervisor, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for developing Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and delivering developmentally appropriate programming. Programming will be tailored to each child’s strengths, interests, and individualized goals, and informed by established principles of child development and evidence-based best practices that support each child’s growth and learning.
The Preschool Teacher works closely with consulting therapists, supports the safe and effective use of assistive devices, and provides guidance and mentorship to volunteers and post-secondary placement students as part of a collaborative classroom team.
Key Responsibilities
Inclusive Programming
- Plan, implement, and facilitate inclusive, play-based programming for children ages 18 months to 4 years in alignment with How Does Learning Happen? and Individual Program Plans (IPPs)
- Develop, implement, and regularly review Individual Program Plans (IPPs) in collaboration with families and members of the transdisciplinary team
- Create and maintain a responsive, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports children’s participation, engagement, and developmental outcomes
- Ensure programming reflects each child’s strengths, interests, and developmental needs in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory standards
Assessment & Documentation
- Manage a caseload of up to 8 children.
- Observe, assess, and document children’s developmental progress using ongoing observational and reflective practices
- Monitor developmental progress and complete two formal reports per school year: mid-year IPP and a Year-End Report summary
- Maintain accurate documentation and communication through Lillio and email, including daily logs, weekly updates, and monthly calendars
- Complete incident reports and required documentation in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements
Family & Team Collaboration
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with families through open and consistent communication
- Collaborate with the transdisciplinary team to support IPP development and implementation
- Support the integration and safe use of assistive devices and therapeutic strategies within daily routines, as directed by consulting therapists
- Coordinate transition to school in partnership with families and external partners
Leadership & Mentorship
- Supervise and mentor classroom volunteers and post-secondary placement students
- Provide feedback and written evaluations in partnership with academic institutions
- Work alongside Path Forward Classroom Assistants (PFCAs) as valued members of the classroom team supporting an inclusive classroom environment
Health, Safety & Supervision
- Provide active supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures, including Individualized Medical Plans where applicable
- Conduct daily health checks and report concerns in accordance with centre policies
- Support children’s daily care routines, including toileting/diapering and snack routines
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary classroom environment in accordance with Toronto Public Health and centre standards
Inclusion & Guidance
- Support positive behaviour guidance using respectful, consistent and developmentally appropriate strategies
- Adapt activities and routines to support the participation of all children
- Collaborate with families and the transdisciplinary team to support children’s engagement, inclusion, and success in the program
Compliance & Professional Practice
- Ensure full compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Toronto Public Health requirements, Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) standards, CECE standards of practice, and centre policies
- Participate in team meetings, reflective practice, and ongoing professional learning
- Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct in all interactions and documentation
- Represent the centre in a professional and positive manner at all times
- Perform duties in accordance with the physical requirements of the role, including lifting (up to 50 lbs), floor-based activities, stair use, and active participation in classroom routines.
Qualifications
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education; additional training in Resource Consultation, Special Education, or Infant Development is an asset
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with children with extra support needs in inclusive early learning settings
- Experience working collaboratively within a transdisciplinary team (e.g., educators, therapists, support staff)
- Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Toronto Public Health requirements, Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) standards, and CECE standards of practice
- Experience supervising and mentoring volunteers and/or post-secondary placement students in early learning environments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with families and team members
- Proven ability to write clear, strength-based IPPs and developmental reports
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Reflective, responsive practice and commitment to inclusive, child‑centred learning
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic classroom environment
- Must meet the physical demands of the role including lifting (up to 50 lbs.), floor play, stair climbing, and active engagement throughout the day
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Required Certifications & Clearances:
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification
- Up-to-date immunization record, including a negative TB test

- Annual Salary: $27,572.40 (inclusive of Provincial Wage Enhancement)
