Professor - Academic Upgrading - Math - Partial Load

Community Partnerships and Learning requires a part-time Professor to teach in the Literacy and Basic Skills Program. The Literacy and Basic Skills Program is a comprehensive academic upgrading (Mathematics, English, Science) program designed to assist individuals in acquiring the necessary academic standing to gain entry into postsecondary studies, apprenticeship training and improve their career and employment prospects.

The Literacy and Basics Skills Program is a key program within Mohawk’s Employment Ontario training and employment delivery strategy, and provides a learner-centered, goal directed and outcome-based learning environment for adult learners.

The successful applicant will be teaching Math to adults in a barrier- free and learner-centred environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Teaching one-on-one, to small groups, or a class.
Learner orientation, assessment, goal setting, and ‘Learning Plan’ development.
Researching and developing teaching material, preparing individualized lesson plans.
Creating a positive learning environment in the classroom and laboratories.
Use a variety of teaching and learning strategies including online learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant will have:
A minimum four-year degree in Math or Science.
Teaching experience using educational technology is highly desirable.
Prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
A minimum 3 years teaching adults in Math.
Solid computer knowledge and expertise.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
The successful candidate must have an ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages. The ability to work as a part of a team and demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/she may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus.
