The award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre is currently in search of a General Accountant (6 Month Contract) to join our team. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the General Accountantplays an integral role in ensuring the accuracy of the organization’s general ledger, which involves posting daily financial transactions in a timely and efficient manner. This position will process client invoices, reconcile and generate financial reports, and complete other accounts receivable activities related to month-end. This role will provide support in other areas as needed. This position requires a high degree of organization, detail orientation, effective communication and involves working under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Prepare client invoices and deposits with accuracy and within established time frames; following up on overdue deposits, invoice payments, and collections.
  • Records payments made by credit card, wire transfer or cheque, and processes credits for event refunds in EBMS.
  • Researches and resolves payment discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Ensures service orders are closed off in a timely manner and reviews revenue charges in accordance to sales contracts.
  • Investigates and resolves customer queries in a timely manner.
  • Creates and manages accounting figures and financial reports.
  • Assists with ad-hoc accounting duties and special projects as requested.


  • You possess an education in Accounting at the post-secondary level.
  • You possess a minimum of two years’ work experience in accounting, with a background in accounts receivable.
  • You have experience with financial analysis and possess an understanding of accounting best practices.
  • You are able to effectively communicate a clear, simple, yet detailed idea, thought or concept.
  • You identify issues and problems and gathers enough relevant information before making a decision and acting
  • You demonstrate personal accountability and understand the desired outcomes of the role and the organization
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office; Word, Excel, Outlook is critical.
  • Education in Business, Hospitality or Tourism is an asset.
