Employment & Pay:
- Starting pay $28 - $30 an hour depending on experience with shop drawings.
- Increases up to $32/hour once you can reliably run the precast process for your assigned work area (usually 1-2 mould types), which usually happens within 6-8 weeks.
- Further increases follow as you take on additional areas of the plant, with long-term growth into a Production Supervisor role.
- Full-time, Permanent

Overtime:
- This role currently involves overtime hours as we build up our floor team, paid according to Ontario employment standards. Reducing overtime is a key goal as our team grows.

WHAT THIS ROLE IS REALLY ABOUT
This isn't a generic entry-level posting. Here's what matters most for this job at Porter's right now:
1. LEARN FAST, THEN OWN AN AREA
- You'll start out training the same way any new hire does, learning our processes and getting comfortable on the plant floor. But this role is built as a fast track: as you pick up Porter's processes and start working independently, you'll take ownership of a specific product group, becoming the person who knows it inside and out. From there, you'll be the one training and leading new hires as they learn to make that product.
2. READING SHOP DRAWINGS AND BUILDING TO SPEC
- You'll work directly from shop drawings to adjust the precast moulds for your product group, so the right product gets built correctly. Some experience reading shop drawings or building to specification is helpful here, and if you don't have it yet, a willingness to learn quickly is a must. Serious calculations are not required, but this job does require some math skills, like adding together angles and measuring to the millimetre. This is a hands-on, day-to-day part of the job.
3. COMFORTABLE WORKING IN A FAST-PACED ENVIRONMENT
- Things move quickly at Porter's, and you'll need to be comfortable keeping pace on a busy floor. This role is hands-on: you'll handle tools like scrapers, drills, and wrenches, and once you've completed the proper training, you'll operate heavy equipment such as remote overhead cranes and forklifts. You'll work directly with concrete trucks and finishing accessories on freshly poured concrete, teaching your team members to do the same, and you'll be climbing in and out of manlifts, risers, and work platforms throughout the day.

- Porter's has been doing this a long time, and there's real value in the way things are already done here. We're looking for someone who's comfortable following established procedures, understands why consistency matters on a production floor, and leads by example rather than challenging every process along the way. We genuinely value input and fresh ideas, we just want to see that you've fully learned and can demonstrate our processes first, before you start looking to change them.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY TO DAY
Learning, Then Teaching
- Learn Porter's processes hands-on as a new hire, with the goal of working independently as quickly as possible
- Master the processes for your assigned product group, becoming the go-to person for how it's built
- Once you've mastered your area, train and lead new hires as they learn to make that product
- Provide day-to-day coaching and support to teammates working in your product area
- Build and maintain an open, respectful working relationship with everyone on the floor
Production and Quality
- Read and interpret shop drawings to guide adjustments to precast moulds for your product group
- Follow safety-first practices in daily operations, working toward a "Zero" safety performance
- Work directly with our Quality Control person to catch and resolve issues in your product area
- Work with your team to meet daily and weekly production targets based on customer priorities to help ensure products are manufactured on time and to specification
- Maintain the highest practical housekeeping standard in your work area, taking ownership of keeping your work area organized, with tools and equipment kept in good condition and stored in their proper place
Process and Continuous Improvement
- Follow and reinforce Porter's established processes and procedures for production
- Support continuous improvement in your product area, building on what already works rather than starting over
- Keep management updated on daily output and quality targets within your product area
Relationships and Communication
- Work closely with the Production Supervisor and your teammates on day-to-day production
- Communicate directly with Quality Control on product issues in your area
- Step in to help teammates or fill gaps on the floor when needed
WHAT YOU BRING / EXPERIENCE
*** Must have reliable transportation to and from the Dresden Plant
- Some hands-on experience in production, manufacturing, or a similarly hands-on environment is an asset, but not required if you're eager to learn
- Comfort with, or a willingness to learn, reading shop drawings and building to specification
- A genuine interest in mastering a craft and eventually teaching it to others
- Willing to follow established procedures closely; this is not a role for reinventing how things are done
- The ability to keep pace and stay focused in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills, especially the ability to explain things clearly to new teammates
WHERE THIS ROLE CAN TAKE YOU
This role is designed to grow. Once you've mastered every area of the plant, not just your own product group, and you understand how orders and workflow move between the office and the floor, the next step is to master another work area. The more areas you can lead independently, the more you'll be rewarded with incremental pay increases and possible promotion to other supervisor roles.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
You'll report to the Production Supervisor and work closely with your teammates and our Quality Control person day to day.
ABOUT PORTERS
Porter's Infrastructure Products has been manufacturing precast concrete products for over 50 years. Our Dresden plant has been part of that story for the last 25, and it's currently preparing for an exciting stretch of growth. Our facility already runs on overhead cranes, heavy machinery, and moulds, and with the recent addition of a state-of-the-art concrete batching system on site, we can now mix our own concrete product in-house rather than relying on outside suppliers. It's a strong advantage, and it means more opportunity, more growth, and better lives for the people on our team.
Our floor team needs to grow significantly in the coming months, and that's exactly where this role comes in. We're looking for 2-3 Production Floor Team Leads who want to build real skill and grow along with us.
