Job Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing and supporting the design, engineering, documentation, tooling, equipment, materials, and manufacturing processes required for the successful introduction of new products and the improvement of existing products and processes.
This role works closely with Engineering, Sales, Production, Quality, suppliers, and customers to translate technical requirements into practical, cost-effective designs that can be manufactured efficiently and consistently. The position will also design and develop tooling, jigs, fixtures, molds, and other manufacturing aids to improve production efficiency, quality, safety, and repeatability.
The successful candidate will bring a strong combination of mechanical design expertise and hands-on manufacturing experience, with the ability to move effectively between the engineering office and the production floor.

Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Product Design & Engineering
· Work with the project team to develop conceptual designs, preliminary designs, and detailed product designs, from initial concept through quoting and production.
· Translate customers’ technical requirements, drawings, specifications, and application needs into FibreCast product drawings and technical documentation.
· Develop and maintain accurate 3D models, 2D drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
· Review designs for manufacturability, functionality, cost, quality, and ease of assembly.
· Assist Sales with technical support, product development, quotations, and customer inquiries.
· Perform and/or coordinate heat-flow and thermal analysis as required.
· Assist with the development of prototypes and new product introductions.
Tooling, Molds & Manufacturing Equipment
· Design and develop jigs, fixtures, molds, tooling, templates, and manufacturing aids to improve production efficiency, quality, and repeatability.
· Prepare tooling and fabrication drawings and maintain accurate documentation.
· Identify, organize, and maintain molds, jigs, fixtures, and other tooling on the production floor.
· Work with Production to ensure tooling is practical, effective, and suitable for the intended manufacturing process.
· Develop and maintain relationships with mold and tooling suppliers to achieve required cost, quality, lead-time, and performance objectives.
· Utilize FibreCast’s in-house 3D printing capabilities to develop molds, jigs, fixtures, templates, prototypes, and other production aids.
· Evaluate opportunities to introduce automation, specialized machinery, and improved manufacturing methods to increase production efficiency.
