The Cahill Group is seeking a qualified and experienced Quality Inspector to support operations at our Cahill Fabrication Structural Shop in Torbay, NL.
As a Quality Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance of structural steel components and assemblies throughout the fabrication process. This position combines welding inspection, quality control, dimensional verification, and documentation responsibilities to ensure fabricated products meet project drawings, specifications, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), applicable codes, and client requirements.
You will monitor welding and fabrication activities, perform visual weld inspections, conduct dimensional inspections, verify fit-up and alignments, identify and document non-conformances, and provide technical support to fabrication teams in resolving quality and dimensional issues. You will also assist with NDE coordination, material verification, weld traceability, and the preparation of quality documentation required for project turnover.
This is a night-shift position based out of Torbay, NL.
What will you do?
- Perform visual weld inspections and dimensional inspections of structural steel components and assemblies.
- Verify fit-up, alignment, member dimensions, hole locations, squareness, and overall geometry against drawings and specifications.
- Ensure Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) requirements are completed and documented.
- Interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
- Identify, document, and report welding defects, dimensional discrepancies, and non-conformances.
- Provide technical support to fabrication teams in resolving quality and dimensional issues.
- Coordinate and verify required NDE activities with third-party providers.
- Verify material, weld, and component traceability.
- Maintain inspection reports, weld maps, marked-up drawings, and other quality documentation.
- Assist with NCRs, corrective actions, and final quality/turnover documentation.
- Work with supervisors, fabrication teams, clients, and inspectors to ensure quality requirements are met.
What will you bring?
- Minimum CWB Level 2 Certification – Required.
- Experience in structural steel welding and fabrication.
- Experience in quality inspection, welding inspection, and/or dimensional control.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication and engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of CSA W47.1, CSA W59, and applicable welding/fabrication standards.
- Experience with weld mapping, traceability, NCRs, and quality documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with fabrication teams.
- Technical diploma/training in welding, fabrication, engineering technology, quality control, or a related field is considered an asset.
