Full Time Deputy County Librarian
The Deputy County Librarian manages the County Library system on a day to day basis. This position is responsible for the supervision Administration staff and Branch Managers to ensure efficient and comprehensive services are provided for the public based on their needs. This includes developing and mentoring staff to reach their highest potential to serve the residents of Huron County. The Deputy County Librarian assists the County Librarian with library planning and development as required.
This position is located in Library Administration Office in Clinton, Ontario.
Roles and Responsibilities
Manages the operation of the county library system on a daily basis. Leads the library team and participates in other county committees as required. Directly supervises office manager, information services librarian, technical services coordinator, 5 branch managers and approximately 25 branch staff indirectly across 12 branches. This requires acting as a mentor and leader to library staff as well as participating in hiring, orientation and performance development.
Leads library staff in the development, creation, execution and administration of library policies/procedures and ensures uniformity in their implementation.
Determines staff training needs and coordinates attendance at external training workshops and/or organizes train-the-trainer opportunities to ensure staff development goals are being achieved.
Has ultimate responsibility for the selection and purchase of all collections (has spending authority within the materials budget).
Assists the county librarian with grant applications, annual reports, budget preparation, monitoring, the collection and analysis of library statistics and other administrative responsibilities as needed.
Attends library board meetings.
Prepares branch manuals, library board manuals and other documentation.
Assists the county librarian with special renovation and expansion projects at library branches, including space planning and furniture and equipment recommendations.
Performs other duties as required and assigned by the county librarian.
Master’s degree in library and information studies AND
Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a public library, including experience in a management capacity.
A successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screen.
Willingness and ability to travel when required.
Wage: Non-Union Grade 13 $44.84 – $50.35, 35 hours per week. Other compensation includes a competitive benefits package and pension plan.
