The Opportunity
Marine Thinking is seeking a hands-on, technically minded Technical Operations Specialist to support the assembly, testing, inventory, shipping, deployment, and technical support of our marine technology products and systems.
Working closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Operations, you will help move products from prototype and production through testing, delivery, and customer support.
This is a varied role for someone who enjoys working with technology, solving practical problems, using tools and test equipment, and working across both technical and operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Assembly & Production
● Assemble and configure electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical systems.
● Support prototype builds and production activities.
● Perform product testing, inspections, and quality checks.
● Troubleshoot basic hardware and assembly issues.
● Use hand tools and electronic test equipment.
● Follow technical drawings, wiring diagrams, work instructions, and SOPs.
● Provide feedback to Engineering on assembly, testing, product performance, and potential improvements.
Inventory, Shipping & Logistics
● Maintain accurate inventory records and stock levels.
● Receive, inspect, organize, and track components and equipment.
● Perform inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.
● Assist with purchasing and spare-parts management.
● Prepare, package, label, and document equipment for shipment.
● Coordinate incoming and outgoing deliveries, equipment returns, and deployment logistics.
Tier 1 Technical Support
● Respond to customer support requests and provide first-line technical assistance.
● Troubleshoot basic hardware, connectivity, configuration, and operational issues.
● Gather diagnostic information and document customer issues accurately.
● Escalate complex technical issues to Engineering or the appropriate internal team.
● Track outstanding issues and support timely resolution.
● Contribute to customer support documentation and knowledge-base materials.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
● Maintain accurate production, inventory, shipping, and support records.
● Create and update SOPs, work instructions, checklists, and technical documentation.
● Support the development of repeatable production and testing processes.
● Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, safety, and reliability.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
● Diploma, degree, or technical training in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
● Minimum 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in electronics, manufacturing, production, technical operations, field service, technical support, or a related environment.
● Experience assembling electrical, electronic, mechanical, or electromechanical systems.
● Comfortable using hand tools and electronic test equipment.
● Ability to read and follow technical documentation, drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
● Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a cross-functional team.
● Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, certifications, and hands-on experience will be considered.
Technical Experience Considered an Asset
● Marine electronics or marine systems.
● Uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), autonomous systems, robotics, or remotely operated systems.
● ABYC Electrical Certifications
● Embedded computers or industrial PCs.
● CAN Bus, NMEA 2000, Ethernet, RS-232/RS-485, or other serial communications.
● Soldering, electronics repair, cable fabrication, crimping, connectorization, or panel wiring.
● Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, or other electronic test equipment.
● ERP, MRP, inventory, or warehouse management systems.
● Field deployment or technical installation experience.
● Cloud-based software or technical support platforms.
● Experience working in a startup or growing technology company.
