Restaurant buildout experience is required for this role. If you haven't run a commercial kitchen through construction and inspection, this isn't the right fit.
About us
Elon Design Corp. is a general contractor specializing in commercial restaurant buildouts, interior fit-outs, and millwork across the Greater Toronto Area. Our projects have hard opening dates — a failed health inspection or a late hood install costs our clients real money.
The role
Combined project management and coordination. You'll own projects end to end — running the site and the trades, and owning the documentation behind them. You'll manage several projects at once, at different stages.
Project management
- Run projects from award through closeout: schedule, budget, quality, and client communication
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers — scope, scheduling, site access, and performance
- Manage permits and inspections with municipalities, public health units, ESA, and TSSA
- Coordinate kitchen equipment: rough-in requirements, delivery timing, connection, and startup
- Review drawings and specifications; catch trade conflicts before they hit the field
- Conduct site walkthroughs and drive the punch list to completion
- Enforce health and safety requirements on site
- Report project status, cost position, and schedule risk to ownership
Project coordination and document control
- Maintain the full project document set: drawings, revisions, specifications, permits, approvals
- Issue and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and site instructions through to resolution
- Prepare and log change orders against the contract value
- Track subcontractor contracts, insurance certificates, and WSIB clearances, including expiries
- Maintain deficiency lists and distribute updates to trades
- Prepare progress billing packages with supporting documentation
- Take and distribute site meeting minutes with clear action items and owners
- Assemble closeout packages: as-builts, warranties, O&M manuals, inspection certificates
Required
- 3+ years managing commercial restaurant or food service buildouts — this is not negotiable
- Direct experience with commercial kitchen scope: exhaust hoods and make-up air, grease interceptors, floor drains and sloped floors, walk-in coolers, gas piping, equipment rough-ins
- Experience taking a restaurant through public health inspection, ESA, and TSSA sign-off to occupancy
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and the permit process
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings
- Proven experience coordinating multiple trades on a live site
- Strong document discipline — you keep records current without being chased
- Valid G licence and reliable vehicle
- Strong Excel skills; comfortable with project management software
Nice to have
- Millwork coordination background
- Franchise or multi-location rollout experience
- Tender preparation and subcontractor bid levelling
- Familiarity with Ontario Construction Act payment timelines and lien procedures
What we offer
- Vehicle or mileage allowance
- Direct exposure to ownership and real decision-making authority
- Steady pipeline of restaurant and fit-out work across the GTA
