The mine is located a short drive from Wawa, deep in the forest where it is scenic and quiet. It is a real ‘boots on the ground’ setting. Team members reside in a camp environment and typically work on rotations, depending on the position. About the Opportunity
The Technical Services Manager leads the site’s technical services team and is accountable for all aspects of mine engineering, geology, geotechnical, ventilation, and survey functions. The role ensures the safe and efficient execution of underground mining activities through accurate planning, technical governance, grade control, and risk management.
The Technical Services Manager works closely with operations leadership to optimize mine performance, maximize ore recovery, minimize dilution, and support the achievement of production and business objectives.

With a strong background in mine engineering, geology, geotechnical engineering, ventilation, and mine planning, you excel at translating Life of Mine strategies into safe, practical, and executable operational plans. Position Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Job Duties
Technical Services Leadership

Provide leadership and direction to the Mine Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical, Ventilation, and Survey teams.

Ensure operational priorities are aligned with technical service forecasts, budgets, and Life of Mine objectives.

Foster a high-performance culture focused on safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Mentor and develop technical personnel to build organizational capability and succession strength.

Promote strong communication and collaboration between technical and operational departments.
Mine Planning & Tactical Execution
-
Lead the development and execution of short, medium, and long-term underground mine plans aligned to budget.

Translate Life of Mine strategy into executable weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual production plans.

Ensure mine plans optimize ore recovery, equipment utilization, sequencing, ventilation constraints, and operational efficiency.

Review and approve mine designs, development plans, stope designs, production schedules, and extraction strategies.

Monitor plan compliance and adjust schedules to address operational, geotechnical or other constraints.
Geology & Grade Control

Lead the Mine Production Geology team in delivering effective grade control and ore reconciliation practices.

Alignment to maintain delineation drilling to support confidence in short-term planning execution.

Ensure accurate application of resource and reserve models in underground production areas.

Minimize ore loss and dilution through effective geological interpretation and operational controls.

Oversee reconciliation processes between resource models, mine production, and mill performance.

Support exploration and resource development activities where required.
Geotechnical & Ground Control Management
-
Oversee geotechnical programs related to underground ground stability and rock mechanics.

Ensure ground support standards, monitoring programs, and geotechnical controls are effectively implemented and updated regularly.

Provide technical oversight for stope stability, sequencing, backfill strategies, and underground excavation design.

Monitor and manage geotechnical risks to ensure safe underground working conditions.

Lead investigations and mitigation plans related to ground control issues and geotechnical hazards.
Ventilation & Technical Compliance

Ensure underground ventilation systems are designed and managed to support safe and efficient mining operations.

Oversee ventilation planning to meet regulatory requirements and operational demands.

Ensure compliance with mine design standards, engineering specifications, and Ontario mining regulations.

Provide technical governance over underground infrastructure and active mining areas.
Technical Risk Management
-
Identify and proactively mitigate technical risks that may impact safety, production, or mine economics.

Evaluate geological, geotechnical, ventilation, and operational risks within the mine plan.
-
Support operational decision-making through data analysis, technical assessments, and scenario planning.

Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions related to technical failures or hazards.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
-
Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Processing teams to support mine performance objectives.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, mine recovery, dilution control, and cost reduction.

Evaluate and implement new technologies, systems, and best practices to improve technical performance aligned with Wesdome guidance.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning activities related to technical services functions.
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

Prepare and present technical reports, monthly and quarterly forecasts, and operational updates to site leadership.

Ensure accurate reporting of mineral resources and mineral reserves, reconciliation results, and technical KPIs.

Participate in audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews as required.

Collaborate with corporate technical teams, consultants, and contractors to support site objectives.
Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or related discipline.

Professional designation as a P.Eng. or P.Geo. in Ontario is required.

Minimum 10–15 years of underground mining experience, preferably within underground gold mining operations.

Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams.

Strong background in underground mine planning, geology, geotechnical engineering, and operational execution.

Extensive experience with mine planning and geology software such as Deswik, Datamine, Leapfrog, or similar platforms.

Strong understanding of how short-term operational decisions impact long-term asset value and mine economics.

Location: Eagle River Mine Complex
Shift / Hours of Work: 10-hours
Schedule / Rotation: 4 days on, 3 days off
