Instructor – Workplace Essential Skills Program

We are looking for a Workplace Essential Skills Instructor. The successful candidate will be a part of the Workplace Skills Development Unit in the School of Continuing Learning.

The Workplace Essential Skills at Bow Valley College (WES) Program is supplemental upskilling course provided to learners in need of improving their essential skills to successfully complete the TOWES requirement of their program. The 5-hour remedial program is offered several times per year.

WES instructors work out of the School of Continuing Learning, under the direction of the Business Leader, Workplace Skills Development an Assessment Services are responsible for providing instruction to learners; evaluating learner progress, designing and developing curriculum and instructional materials, and supporting learners in meeting the learning outcomes of the program.

Candidates must be committed to effective teaching and demonstrate the ability to teach courses within in a broad range of settings. The WES program is primarily delivered fact to face, but may also include online and in blended delivery settings.

Provides Quality Instruction

Instructs courses as assigned.
Selects instructional strategies to meet learner needs.
Prepares and updates course syllabus/outline and content.
Creates lesson plans.
Develops and updates curriculum, manuals and guides as requested.
Maintains official’s records as required.

Provides a Positive Learning Experience for Students

Identifies areas of concerns and refer to the Program Coordinator if follow up is necessary.
Refers students to other institutional supports as required (for example: tutoring, counseling).
Participates in college and departmental events that promote student success (for example: orientation, graduation).

Other Duties /Special Projects

Follows College Policies and procedures.
Completes any professional development requirements (for example: D2L; Agresso Student Module training, Instructional Skills Training, FOIP).
Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Bachelor in a related field.
3 years of experience.
An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.


Curriculum development an asset.
Industry relationships are an asset

This is a casual Faculty position. This course is offered multiple times each trimester, with most sessions running once a week, (Mon-Fri) for 1.5 – 3 hrs, scheduled anytime between 8am – 5pm
