POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Employment Coach / Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering the Newcomer Youth Career Navigator program, an innovative counselling-informed career development initiative supporting newcomer and refugee youth aged 13–30. The Coordinator will recruit participants, provide individualized career coaching, facilitate workshops, build partnerships with employers and community organizations, support the Youth Advisory Committee, monitor participant outcomes, and contribute to program evaluation and reporting. Using a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, strengths-based, and gender-responsive approach, the Coordinator will help newcomer youth build career clarity, confidence, employability skills, and sustainable pathways to employment, education, and training.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program Coordination (25%) Coordinate day-to-day implementation of the Newcomer Youth Career Navigator project.
- Manage participant intake, enrollment, assessment, and referrals.
- Maintain participant records and program databases.
- Coordinate schedules, workshops, employer events, and guest speakers. Support project reporting requirements and grant deliverables.
- Participate in internal planning and cross-departmental meetings.
- Career Coaching & Participant Support (30%) Conduct individual career assessments and goal-setting sessions.
- Facilitate the development of individualized Career Action Plans.
- Provide ongoing career coaching and employment navigation support.
- Assist participants with career exploration, labour market research, educational pathways, and employment planning.
- Support youth facing barriers including trauma, social isolation, interrupted education, and limited work experience.
- Make referrals to mental health, settlement, education, and community supports as required.
- Workshop Facilitation & Group Programming (15%) Facilitate or coordinate workshops on on career development
- Adapt materials to diverse learning styles and literacy levels.
- Support experiential learning activities and workplace exposure opportunities.
- Outreach & Partnership Development (15%) Coordinate outreach in newcomer communities, schools, and community settings.
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers, educational institutions, and community partners.
- Support recruitment activities and information sessions.
- Coordinate employer engagement opportunities including guest speakers, workplace visits, and networking events.
Youth Advisory Committee Support (5%)
- Promote meaningful youth engagement throughout project delivery.
- Support implementation of youth feedback.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting (10%)
- Collect participant data and outcome information.
- Administer surveys andevaluation tools.
- Track participant progress and employment outcomes.
- Prepare reports, success stories, and program updates.
- Support continuous quality improvement efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Degree or diploma in Career Development, Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Education, Psychology, Employment Counselling, or related field.
- Career Development Practitioner training or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
- Experience Minimum 2–3 years of experience working with youth, newcomers, refugees, or equity-deserving communities.
- Experience coordinating community-based projects Experience providing employment counselling, career coaching, settlement services, or youth programming.
- Experience facilitating workshops and group programs.
Knowledge
- Understanding of newcomer and refugee settlement experiences.
- Fluency in English, Pashto, and Dari (required).
- Knowledge of youth employment trends and labour market information.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
- Familiarity with barriers faced by newcomer, refugee, racialized, and marginalized youth.
- Knowledge of community resources and employment supports.

Assets
- Lived experience as a newcomer, refugee, or first-generation Canadian.
- Additional language(s) including Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Somali
- Experience working with NEET youth.
- Knowledge of career development theories and assessment tools.
- Experience using virtual learning platforms and digital engagement tools
Familiarity with Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park communities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Occasional evening and weekend programming.
- Ability to facilitate both in-person and virtual programming. Screening Requirements
