Local Engineering Ltd. is an Alberta based engineering services provider supporting a select group of recurring clients. Local’s unique approach is to develop a long-term relationship with our clients, becoming the “owner’s engineer” and prioritizing client needs. We have a wide-ranging and diverse client base to help stabilize our workload when some markets are in a downturn. The quickly growing Local Engineering team is small but nimble, with a one-of-a-kind collaborative team environment.
Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Designer will provide sustainable capital and operational electrical design support to clients such as improvements within existing facilities, including but not limited to conceptual design of improvement ideas, replacement of existing equipment and design and implementation of new capital projects. The pace of work is fast and changes from day to day, which requires an agile person who can manage and execute many activities simultaneously in a challenging environment. Education & Qualifications
- Diploma in Engineering design and drafting technology, or equivalent
- Preference will be given to a candidate with at least 10 years of progressive electrical design experience, however team fit is most important
- Experience developing drawings including single line diagrams, equipment layouts, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and hazardous area classification
- Able to work independently preparing high quality electrical engineering deliverables
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD, including 2D and 3D modeling functions
- Proficiency in using Microstation 2D
- Proficiency in AutoPlant 3D modeling functions
- Proficiency integrating 3D point clouds into working models
- Proficiency in process and piping design is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents
- Site/field based industrial work experience is considered an asset
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards and ability to apply them independently
Responsibilities
- Prepare electronic CAD working plans and technical drawings which comply with industry and project codes and standards.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Identify that drawings meet specific dimensions, materials and specifications while correcting any deviations.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure design documents are completed according to deadlines and budget.
- Completing documentation packages and drawing sets.
- Support project estimating and proposal writing as it relates to design inputs and scope of work.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team to complete project requirements.
- Assist in electrical engineering calculations as required.
- Manage personal project budgets ensuring work is completed according to the defined contractual scope and execution strategy.
- Provide additional support as needed including collaborating with other disciplines (mechanical, process, structural) to deliver well-rounded solutions to clients.
- Support business development activities such identifying, developing, and maintaining professional connections to enhance and maintain business for the company.
- Identify potential project opportunities and work with the Local team to grow the business.
- Report to the Electrical Engineering Lead on progress of work.
- Review and issue drawings and calculations, following Local standards and procedures.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety and quality.
- Travel to the field for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to more junior team members.

Position Conditions
- Hours of work per week may vary depending on available work and skillset of individual, but the intention is that this is a full-time position.
- Salary is commensurate with industry standards based on relevant experience.
- Job is typically performed in an office environment.
- Site travel may be required depending on the project.
