Overview
Build North is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Clerk to support our accounting and project administration team. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting functions with a focus on construction accounting processes, including invoice processing, job cost tracking, subcontractor documentation, and financial record maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and efficiently
- Prepare, verify, and enter invoices, purchase orders, expense reports, and payment applications
- Assist with construction job costing and project-related accounting activities
- Maintain subcontractor files, insurance certificates, and WSIB documentation
- Reconcile bank statements, credit cards, and supplier accounts
- Assist with payroll data entry and employee expense tracking
- Monitor and track project budgets, committed costs, and change orders
- Support month-end and year-end accounting procedures
- Maintain organized financial and project records in both digital and physical formats
- Assist with the preparation of financial reports and internal documentation
- Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, project managers, and internal staff regarding accounting matters
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience with construction accounting principles, including job costing and progress billing
- Proficiency with Sage 100 Contractor/Sage 100 accounting software is an asset
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with contractors, subcontractors, and construction project documentation
- Knowledge of Ontario construction industry processes and terminology
- Familiarity with lien holdbacks, progress draws, and construction-related accounting procedures
