Administrative Temporary Full-time New Contract Position (June 2021 to May 2022)

Conestoga College’s School of Business’ Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance (CISWP) is currently recruiting a Researcher to work on various research projects in the area of work and health. Under the supervision of the Director, Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance (CISWP), and the Research Project Manager, the incumbent will perform CISWP related research and oversee the work of students involved in the research projects. In addition, the individual will support industry engagements, KTE activities, grant writing activities, and scientific publications.
CISWP’s mission is to improve the safety, wellness, and performance of the Canadian labour force by generating knowledge, transferring research to practice, and strengthening workforce development – all in collaboration with stakeholders. CISWP adopts a transdisciplinary and collaborative approach to build capacity for productive and sustainable work. Recent research projects focus on the development of evidence-informed tools and resources to address mental health, musculoskeletal disorders, product and work environment design, and disability management. The incumbent will be actively involved in the CISWP’s skilled trades OSH research program.
Although many of our employees are currently working remotely, all employees are expected to be able to work on campus as required.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation
Set up, coordinate, attend, and follow up on meetings with potential research partners
Attend internal and external meetings, site visits, and demonstrations to industry
Draft scientific publication and submission as lead or co-author
Prepare project documentation and interim and final reports including technical performance metrics to industry partners and funding agencies Oversee, supervise, and mentor students for research projects
Meet project deliverables and milestones in a timely manner according to the project timeline
Identify training needs related to research equipment/processes and delivering training to staff and students
Attend and participate in activities such as hosting webinars, participating conferences, and project-related networking
Prepare material and coordinates success story completion
Support social media activities related to CISWP research projects
Apply and maintain research ethics approval from Conestoga College’s Applied Research and Innovation
Research-based Master’s Degree in Health Studies, Kinesiology, Human Factors and Ergonomics, Biomechanics, Occupational Health and Safety, or related areas is required; Ph.D. in a related field is considered an asset
CCPE designation or equivalent is considered an asset
A minimum of two years of research experience as demonstrated by scientific publications and presentations
Workplace data collection experience
Experience with surveys, interviews, and collecting self-reported data
Experience with biomechanical or ergonomic measuring equipment (motion capture system, EMG, force measurement, etc.) is considered an asset
A strong knowledge base of qualitative and quantitative applied research in Work and Health
A strong and successful track record coordinating complex research projects
Strong computer skills including software for quantitative, qualitative, and statistical analysis
Excellent communication, writing, and networking skills
Proven ability to multitask and manage time effectively
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative work environment
